Fasting

A lot of people are seeing results from fasting for 24 hours or more. They say it enhances autopghagy.

Would fasting help the body deplete VA? I am wondering if fasting combined with low VA diet could accelerate the results.

If you eat dinner, then don't eat breakfast until 12-14 hours later you will allow your body to properly go through autophagy. I do this daily, and have seen great results with weight loss. You don't need to do anything more extreme than that, when you do that's when you can run into trouble.

Just before I started the low/zero vitamin A refeed, I was doing a 20 + day water fast, I think fasting really helps to deplete quickly.  I plan to keep doing shorter water fasts every couple months to keep the depletion going.  Also good way to deplete built up PUFA stores.

Fasting is a normal part of spontaneous eating. That said I think that fasting is great only when governed spontaneously.  For example you can feast for several days and than lose appetite for some time or you can lose your appetite by getting deeply involved in some type of work. So hunger and apettite should be the only guide for how often we should be eating and fasting.

The main symptom I've had of retinoid toxicity is IBSish ( never diagnosed by a Dr, but discomfort comes and goes with amount of VA ingested), and I spontaneously fasted 16 hrs a day because food hurt my guts. I'll be fasting 48 hours starting tomorrow to see what effects it might have on my symptoms. I can imagine a large potential for VA clearing through the autophagy part, just curious as to how much and what sort of effects might come from possibly spiking  serum RA during the fast....

I think @orion might have some experience with fasting.

Done short and long water fasts.  Didn't realize at the time, that the benefits probably came from zero VA intake.

So I am not sure if fasting or eating zero VA with zinc, protein, taurine, etc coming from diet removes it quicker.  From what I recall, during fasting the detox flares seemed minimal.  I am planning a 10 day water fast soon, maybe June, was thinking testing it out now I am VA free for 6 months.

The one thing I hate about fasting especially in winter months is the constant colder hands, feets, etc from the lowered metabolic rate.  Otherwise I find them easy, and energy levels stay constant.  I have done; 3, 7, 10, 14, 20, and 50 day fasts, also plenty of IF in the past.
