I am not sure how to classify my diet fat wise ... I don't add any fat to it, but I eat for example ground lamb burger, which according to the online shop I buy them, have 33% fat content. I also eat whole chicken legs with the skin on. But the beef I eat is lean, of around 5 to 10% fat.

I know that Dr. Smith recommends low fat, and I think I do feel better when I eat lean meats, but it's no fun. I crave fat. I love the taste. But at least I don't add any extra fat ... so maybe that accounts for something. Maybe I crave fat because my body wants to purge the VA as soon as possible? I don't know ...

I was eating rice and meat for some time, but the rice was making edema in my ankles worse. I attribute the edema to liver damage. I assume it was the arsenic in the rice which caused that ... ?

So far I've been doing quite well on the carnivore diet. I know Dr. Smith's stand on it and I tried it "his way", but it didn't work out for me so well. I also don't see any added value in eating rice .... especially white rice. It's pure starch. In the end, I gotta go with what works for me ... and so far the carnivore diet works. I am open to future changes though, if necessary.

I have been now for around 2 months on a low VA diet, carnivore for most of the time, low dose lactoferrin (as recommended by Garret Smith), low dose ALA, Vitamin K2 (200 to 400 mcg/day) and the changes have been extremely encouraging.

@paola Just out of curiosity, what does your carnivore diet look like or have you stopped doing carnivore? I know Dr. Smith is not a fan of high fat diets, as he believes they induce cholestasis and steatosis based on the research. He also says high fat diets increase the rate of enterohepatic recirculation. Are you eating mainly lean meat or doing high fat, low vA carnivore despite what Dr. Smith recommends?

But basically, that's what I eat: chicken, any part of it, but now preferably legs and wings, ground beef, ground lamb, other cuts of lamb, pork, also any cut. Except for organs, of course. So, I only eat muscle meat. Of any animal. Right now I eat 2 to 3 times a day. The lactoferrin seems to increase my appetite. I also add apple cider vinegar to my meals. It reduces bloating and helps with digestion. Some probiotics. I think long term I will go back to eating one meal a day but not yet.

@paola no beans or other soluble fiber such as psyllium?

No, nothing. The only plant based food I take into my mouth is the apple cider vinegar.

@paola

I'll be interested to hear future updates from you regarding progress on a low VA carnivore diet.  I've been low VA for about 1.5 years now, most of that on a lean-ish carnivore diet that sounds similar to you, and I've certainly seen some improvements but also a lot of problems along the way.  I'm pretty certain I had oxalate problems that coincided with VA toxicity, and it's really hard to figure out whether oxalates or VA is at the root of different symptoms.  I definitely went through a phase of having cloudy urine after I cut oxalates out of my diet, but I think it only lasted a month or two, so maybe I cleared out most of the oxalates relatively quickly and everything since then has been due primarily to VA toxicity?

What symptoms do you have that you attribute to VA toxicity?

Have you experienced any diarrhea since going low VA?
