Any thoughts on what Frank Tufano is saying about carnivore diet .

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RMIK9PXwiqU ,

He mentions about Iron overload and eating liver almost weekly wont cause any issues ( which is catastrophic ) . Any of you guys able to connect the dots about why his health went on a decline despite being on a carnivore diet for a long time . He has mentioned in his previous videos that he used to consume bottles of fish oil and stuff , and used to eat tons of organ meat , but didn't have any symptoms related to Vitamin A toxicity ( which I find hard to believe  ) .

Also I would like to know the possibility of iron over dose on all meat ( no organs ) diet and what should I possibly do about it

Interesting video. I think he acknowledges VA is an issue for him here. Isn't insomnia a VA issue? I can relate to the palpitations on carnivore and keto.

Someone has posted a link to a video showing him talking about being vA toxic. Not sure if it was on this forum or on Facebook. I shall see if I can find it.

There’s another popular vegan YouTuber with the moniker of Vegetable Police.  He was following a vegan diet for about 10 years, and it was somewhat keeping his IBD under control.

He then went on the carnivore diet. After the first 6 months he felt great, with most of his health conditions making big improvements.

Then he added liver into his carnivore diet, and within a few more months started to regress, and felt terrible.

He blamed the carnivore diet, dropped it, and when back to a vegan diet.

thanks for the reply grant , its an undisputed fact that eating liver is unhealthy ,although people get carried away after eating a few initially with the apparent health benefits , but in the long run its catastrophic to health , we all are a living example of that fact one way or the other ( high vitamin A foods or supplementation ) . but I would like to know your view about the iron overdose he is mentioning , what are your view about that in general ?

Cheers!

I think "the trap" is thinking there is something completely wrong with macros your ancestors ate.

There is lots wrong with modern food, but your ancestral diet (the ratios of your macros) are a blueprint for you.

Then, you need to source foods that are more like your ancestral foods--free of chemicals, not raised on corn etc.

These people have mental disorders switching between vegan and carnivore.

One of the most basic concepts of human nutrition is that we are OMNIVORES, more specifically omnivores that eat cooked and processed food. This is not up for debate but both vegans and carnivore dieters misrepresent the facts.

A mixture of animal protein and fat and plant based starch is the most efficient and optimal macronutrient profile for a mammal that is adapted to it. Consuming starch is a much more efficient way of replenishing our glycogen reserves than eating protein and then converting it to glucose which is what carnivores do, we cannot do it to the extent they can.

There is no mammal that lives on muscle meat only. Carnivores don't go after fat either. Carnivores love liver and the other organs and they have efficient VA excretion systems. Fat is difficult to digest unless it is emulsified with other food (i.e. starch), humans have learnt to incorporate it into cooked food. If we eat like a carnivore does we get both VA and iron poisoning and protein overload as we have much lower protein ceilings compared with carnivores. We are only supposed to eat protein for non energetic requirements, not for energy like a carnivore does.

Hi @jaj,

I think the high ferritin levels that Frank Tufano mentioned are actually a protective response to vA toxicity, and not the result of eating too much red meat.

It’s very interesting that the repeated blood donations he made (“every single week for three months”) helped him so quickly. He assumes it was the removal of iron, but it’s just as likely that it was the reduction in his circulating vA.

blood donation is something I will try next month , I will try to donate twice . Will keep you guys updated here

Cheers!

I haven’t watched the video but I have read some long time carnivores say that Frank was always obsessed with organ meats. I have read numerous stories from people who have eaten carnivore for a decade or longer and what they all have in common is that they rarely to never eat organs. They do not value them or seek them out. I noticed that the Peterson family hit a bit of a snag when they started eating liver per paleomedicina recommendations. Mikhaila took up and obsession with fasting and her father Jordan sadly had a mental breakdown. It was blamed on stress from his wife’s health problems but I can’t help but wonder if the addition of liver might have had an impact. I used to follow their stories on social media because I found it very interesting how they healed from autoimmunity and depression but I stopped keeping track after they started eating liver.
