Cacao Butter: Safe to eat?

Page 1 of 5Next

Cacao butter has quite a few extraordinary properties, partly because of its stearic acid content. I feel generally calmer after I've had roughly 20 g in the morning. When I wake up early, I'll have some, and it's easier to fall back asleep. I also think I've slimmed down a little.

Is there anything particular to be concerned about? As far as I can tell, there is no vitamin A in it, no beta carotene and no oxalates. What has been your experience in case you've tried it?

Cocoa butter does not agree with me, I believe it's bc of the stearic acid. But that is me. Same with coconut butter... before I began a low A die,t 28 months ago, cocoa butter and coconut butter relieved my dizziness but it didn't last long... I felt like it was binding to excess A and shoving it into my tissues... I gained a lot of weight before I started this diet. That excess weight I have since lost.

I have no direct experience with cacao butter, but I would be wary of eating much of anything that is extremely difficult to acquire in quantity without modern machines and agriculture.  I don't know the history of cacao butter, but I imagine it's difficult to press out any significant quantity of fat using hand tools, as is the case with coconut oil, although the fat profiles of those oils look to be way better than olive oil, avocado oil, nut butters, and obviously most seed oils.

It looks very yellow

So you're saying cocoa butter is actually hindering the excretion vitamin A? That seems concerning.

That's in interesting perspective. Anything that's not naturally occurring in the quantities that we actually eat it, it's best to be circumspect. Hm, a similar argument can be made about supplements which I use quite a few of them. Yeah, it's probably a good idea to reduce them to the minimum. It's just that a low vitamin A diet isn't enough yet to feel good. And so I reach for supplements here and there to alleviate symptoms, particularly to feel more energized. Sleep is also an issue. Recently I've discovered CBD oil and find it helps with sleep.

It has way too much carotenoids for me. I don't think it has anything to do with any particular fatty acid. It has quite a lot of pigment in it, if you melt it it's almost completely yellow. There are some processed white/transluscent looking cacao butters out there but unfortunately they all seem to be for skin use or industrial use and are not food grade. Maybe those are safe to eat anyways, I don't know.

Recently I ate two bars of chocolate at a time and felt very good. So much so that I went for a run (I haven't done it for a hundred years).

I saw you mentioned candida in another thread, if there is one thing I noticed while experimenting with cacao btuter is that it seems like a very good anti-biotic anti-fungal anti-parasitical anti-whatever, it seemed to be very good at killing whatever stuff is living in the gut. Unfortunately I had carotene-type symptoms like night blindness return so I had to stop consuming it.

Maybe something like refined deodorized cacao butter such as this might be a better choice: https://www.etsy.com/de/listing/497709333/ultra-raffinierte-weisse-naturliche?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=refined+cocoa+butter&ref=sr_gallery-1-3
