Oil Pulling

Page 1 of 2Next

I looked and didn't see a post completely about oil pulling.   The topic has been raised here and there on other threads.

I'm back to experimenting with oil pulling, and feel that it MIGHT be able to pull VA out of teeth and gums (since VA is fat soluble).

It also seems like a way of reducing germs in the mouth and cleaning hard-to-clean areas.

Please feel free to post about oil pulling here.

I've heard oil pulling works against oral trichomonas, which are attracted by PUFAs, so spilling out oil you reduce their number.

Does it matter which oil is used?

Thanks, I looked it up:   "Oral trichomonas" refers to an infection in the mouth caused by a parasite called "Trichomonas tenax", a type of flagellated protozoan that is commonly found in the oral cavity of humans and can be associated with periodontal disease; essentially, it's a parasitic infection within the mouth,"

I have a day-go orange area behind two teeth (and gum recession there)  that I would like to see reduced, and also I'd like to see my chapped lips normalize.    Those are my goals for this experiment!   I'm using coconut oil just now, though I've read that the non-toasted sesame is very good to use.   Another said they had good results with olive.

If the theory I mentioned is correct, then it should be a PUFA oil, sunflower oil is commonly used. Olive oil supposedly has anti-trichomonas function, so should not be used in this method.

I already think my teeth look whiter, I used to oil pull, and I thought that back then too.   (After about 1 week)

I wonder if a bad effect could be a drain on enzymes, since you begin to break down fats and then spit.

My teeth could definitely look whiter too, they are generally healthy and the dental hyiginist I see once a year mentioned that my teeth look much better than when I first saw her a few years ago. It's incredible that you can notice a whitening of your teeth so quickly @lil-chick. I've done it on and off but never with any noticeable difference. I've used both coconut and olive oil. Maybe I will give it another try. It's just really hard on the tongue. And right now I'm living the cozy lifestyle.

... It's just really hard on the tongue....

Ok I had to take a break because my mouth feels kind of burned.   It's too bad because I feel like there were benefits.   What is this about, obviously there are people out there who don't get this bad effect.

Perhaps it is about the warm salt rinse for me?    I bet rinsing with warm salt water can be overdone/become caustic.   Maybe I should instead just rinse with warm water.

My mind goes to whether we here are all suffering from b12 deficiency (because sore tongue can be a thing with that).    But I will drop the salt rinse and see if that is enough.

I will be attempting this soon with beef tallow. I have ample beef tallow and coconut oil lying around, but I think tallow alone would be ideal since it is so neutral. As a fat I can hardly taste it when I eat.

As for the chapped lips, I had pretty bad ones my whole life. Almost 90% gone in a few days when I started mouth taping before bed. Force myself to breathe through the nose = no more chapped lips. Better feeling upon waking as well. I was a real bad mouth breather.

I highly recommend the book Breath, by James Nestor.
