Hey guys - I've been going with the Low Vitamin A diet for almost 2 months now (previous accutane victim).

I was feeling really good last week, sleep was better, my skin was starting to look better, had no active acne for the first time in a long time. I was feeling really positive about the direction I was heading.

However, this week I seem to have gone backwards, my sleep has gotten worse, my skin looks an absolute mess today. The only thing I can say is that my anxiety doesn't feel like it's regressed from the improvements it has made.

I've read the blog posts on the site and I can see that there is some regression in terms of the liver releasing the stores it has, making things worse. Was just looking for a bit of reassurance that this happened to other people and that I will come out of the other side.

It's been hard to drag myself to work today because I feel like my skin looks that bad. Last week I was feeling confident and didn't have half the concerns about it that I've been living with since accutane.

Thanks for listening (reading).

Certainly some weeks will be better than others, but you can still try to tweak your diet a bit to see if it helps with symptoms.

Add some fat, or remove some. Salt could also help as can many other things mentioned on the forum.

Waiting it out is also an option, but if you choose to experiment please share the results.

Thanks - the only thing different I added this week was peanuts. They were salt and vinegar and had added sunflower oil, not sure if there is a connection there with a bad reaction or what. It's the only real thing I can think that I've done differently.

Grant has a newer blog post about setbacks;  https://ggenereux.blog/2019/02/05/protein-synthesis-and-setbacks/

Healing after accutane will take several months, probably 1-2 years to complete getting to balance, and you will have many setbacks, but as long as you stay low vitA  you will progress.

I am over 3 months zero vitA now, and still seeing progress(two time accutane user), but it does go up and down.

Hi, I have been going nearly 4 months low VA and yes I have noticed improvements and then worsening of symptoms. My symptoms go through cycles of being better than worse and each time it seems to be less. Eg at the beginning I had  shocking sleep for 10 days to 2 weeks and bouts of hayfever ( about 4 x). Since then the has been less each time and the hayfever seems to have stopped. You may find the you have a few symptoms flare up and then settle again and it may be just reminding yourself that this is the process of detoxing. Sure you may need to tweak your diet and review how you support your body during the detox. I have been finding Vit C to be helpful.

I used to have insomnia and after a few months no VA I cycle between deep refreshing sleep and mediocre sleep. I can have a few great nights of the most amazing deep refreshing sleep followed by a few nights of mediocre sleep but overall it gets better over time and that's the main thing that's keeping me motivated. Vit C is great during this process.

Dr G has peanuts on the avoid list. Maybe staying away from them in the long run can help?

Ah crap - I didn't know they were on the avoid list. What is the reason?

Cant remember exactly, i have the documents on my laptop and now I am on my phone, but he has written some about it also at his blogforum at nutritionrestored.com. One person got rid of psoriasis (I think it was) by excluding peanuts and cashews. I think it is increasing absorption of carotenoids besides the aflatoxin issue.

Edit: found it 🙂  https://nutritionrestored.com/blog-forum/topic/why-peanuts-are-not-on-the-ok-food-list/

Great, thanks Liz. Just thrown the rest of the bag away 🙂
