Stem Cell Supplements
Quote from Judy on April 11, 2019, 8:00 pmDuring my 25+ years of fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, and multiple auto-immune conditions, the only thing I found that really helped was a supplement called Stem Cell Worx. It contained resveratrol, fucoidan, and colostrum. It was supposed to cause your body to produce more stem cells. After suffering adrenal failure and then getting poisoned by megadoses of vitamin A (prescribed by my doctor) for a year, I found Grant's site. I had to stop taking the stem cell supplement because the colostrum contained a lot of vitamin A.
Grant says that vitamin A causes a disruption in the process of making stem cells, which made me think perhaps that was the reason the product had such a dramatic effect. I can buy resveratrol and fucoidan without the colostrum, but the company spokesperson told me it was the synergy of the ingredients and the intra-oral delivery system that made it work. I'm thinking of trying just the 2 other ingredients to see if it helps. (Fucoidan is a brown seaweed--one of my dentists told me it was used as a restorative in her native Korea--they gave it to new mothers to help them rebuild their strength.)
Do any of you have any advice or opinions about how to try this out? Grant Genereux? Harry MacDonald?

Quote from Carbon on April 12, 2019, 5:30 amHi Judy,
Colostrum gave we the worst flare up of my rheumatoid arthritis ever. I used freeze dried colostrum powder from New Zealand. I'm not sure if it is only the high vitamin A content, other factors in the colostrum might have contributed to the flare-up as well (kind of synergistic effect). Vitamin A supplementation also gives a bad response for me but not to the same extend as colostrum did. Isolated resveratrol has no effect for me. Just waste of money. I have never heart of fucoidan, apparently main ingredient is Agaricus mycelium, kind of mushroom. A review on the effect on immune system is available on pubmed; no real conclusion yet.
Is this product your Stem Cell Worx supplement? Apparently it is for sublingual use. Daily dose contains only 30mg colostrum, 30mg reversatrol and 44mg of fucoidan. Colostrum and mushrooms are very powerful and for some dangerous stuff 🙂 on the other hand 30mg colostrum is a pretty small amount; it might have a complete different effect compared to the daily 100-fold+ dose I took. Colostrom has a high vitamin A content but with 30mg colostrum I doubt if the vitamin A load is meaningful. Maybe even some homeopathic effect comes in effect. This article gives a survey of the composition of bovine colostrum. "Mean concentrations of fat-soluble vitamins, including retinol, tocopherol, and beta-carotene, were 4.9, 2.9, and 0.7 microg/g, respectively". So the vit. A load of Stem Cell Worx should not be a real concern in my opinion.
Can you share some more details about the positive effect of the Stem Cell Worx supplement for your health?

Quote from Judy on April 12, 2019, 11:43 amYes, that is the product.
Fucoidan is a brown seaweed. They have information about it on the website.
I was at a low point, with fibromialgia and chronic fatigue and severe allergies when I first tried it. I was so weak and sick I could hardly get out of bed. My husband had bought a walker for me to use the day before and put it beside the bed. I took the Stem Cell Worx in the evening and when I got up the next morning, I didn't need it. I used it for several years and didn't think I could survive without it, but I continued to get more auto-immune diseases, including adrenal failure. I can see now that they all started when I used a retinal cream about 25 years ago.
About a year ago, my doctor prescribed a megadose of vitamin A, 25,000 mgs, and I foolishly took it for a year. I got sicker and sicker and finally realized that I had been poisoned. That's when I found Grant's site and found out what I needed to do. I reluctantly quit taking the Stem Cell Worx because of the vitamin A. I talked to a company rep and he suggested that I take another product they sell that doesn't have colostrum; it is supposed to be helpful for the brain, and it still has the fucoidan and resveratrol. But, it also has some another chemical that I'm nervous about taking--I'm only 3 months into the diet and I don't want to mess up. I ordered fucoidan and resveratrol separately that I'd like to try at some point, perhaps when I'm further along. The rep said it is the synergy of the 3 ingredients and the method of delivery that makes it work, so I don't know if taking them separately will have much of an effect.
Let me know if you try it. It really is a wonderful product, but perhaps I won't need it after a few more months of low A.

Hi Carbon, Judy,
The conversion factor for retinol is 0.3 mcg = 1 IU.
Therefore, the 4.9 mcg/g is 16.33 IU/g. So, 100 grams of colostrum would be at about 1,633 IUs.

Quote from Carbon on April 14, 2019, 12:47 pmHi Grant
Thanks for the calculation. So a daily dose of the Stem Cell Worx product with 30mg of colostrum is 30 x 1,633/(100 x 1,000) = just 0.489 IU.
Hi Judy,
Thanks for sharing your story. The megadose of vitamin A, 25,000 mgs you took for a year is astonishing. No surprise you got sicker and sicker. I tried 10K IU daily last year but quit already after just a week. I would not be worried about the vitamin A content in the stem cell worx product but at this moment I prefer to refrain from any supplements. Like you I'm now opting for the low A experiment.
Couple of months now and I experienced a number of the early improvements (thinking more clearly, no brainfog anymore, vivid dreams, less blurry vision, swelling in my knee almost disappeared). Anyway, the experiences of you and others on this website make me realize I'm just at the start and encourage me to continue with low vitamin A and not to give up too quickly.

Quote from Judy on April 14, 2019, 4:21 pmThanks Grant and Carbon! I watched Sanjay Gupta's show last night about his trip to Okinawa. He was dancing with a 97 year old woman and talking about their diet. It included seaweed and algae and bitter melon. I tried to find out more about fucoidan but all I found was that it did contain vitamin A. (The rep at Stem Cell Worx thought it was only in the colostrum because he recommended another product that has fucoidan and reveratrol that he said I could take if I didn't want the vit A.) I haven't found a site that gives the actual amount of vit. A in fucoidan.
I decided to take a risk and take one capsule of it today. I was already feeling crummy anyway. I'll let you know if it helped.

Quote from Yi at LDT on April 16, 2019, 8:15 amCheck out the ICES Micropulse by Dr Bob Dennis. You can find a great interview with him at selfhacked.com or on YouTube. Of all the PEMF devices and information out there (even those with a $60,000 pricetag) his is by far the best. I have seen some borderline miraculous effects from just 30minutes os his device on a fairly diverse range of people with varying levels of 'open mindedness'. Increased stem cells was a big focus and observation of the original NASA research. Bob ran the original experiments, he claims what was published was an incomplete fraction of the information they discovered. An incomplete fraction which these other companies blindly base their devices. He has continued his research where other companies have not. Unfortunately it is limited to a single location at a time, or four if you have the money for the research devices. it's a lot more affordable then the $20,000+ though.
Dueterium depleted water might be worth looking into also. It doesn't relate directly with stem cells though it may have HUGE implications for aging and cancer. Absolutely worth looking into!

Quote from Yi at LDT on April 16, 2019, 8:34 amOf all the supplements and drugs I've tried, crazy diets etc. I REALLY like the supplements and fundamentals of what Ray Peat has to say. It comes with a pretty decent dose of misguided garbage like hardly eating solids, drinking copious amounts of sugar and milk, and emphasising the need for exogenouse hormones. If you can sift through all that, there is gold in them waters.
Focusing on optomising the metabolism hormones and thyroid, avoiding PUFA, getting a decent amount of proteine with an emphasis on glycine/gelatine/collagen and so on. The supplement recommendations have been great in my experience, besides the hormones..
Just my 2cents, hope you find something that helps and quickly Judy!
