Yellow teeth
Quote from Ourania on June 14, 2022, 10:21 pmOur teeth are markedly more yellow than before after two and a half years on low vA. Could it be carotenoids leaving? Did this happen to others here?

Quote from Hermes on June 15, 2022, 3:44 am@ouraniaSame here. My teeth are not that nice. And there is quite a lot of plaque buildup on the teeth, particularly the inside of them. Not sure what to make of it. Carotenoids leaving sounds like a reasonable explanation.

I know that loss of enamel is probably the most common explanation for yellowing teeth, but in my case (and I expect the case of others here) the discoloration is quite uniform across all the teeth, and being that it started/worsened during the Vitamin A elimination process, I'm still entertaining the idea that it's staining from some form of Vitamin A in the saliva.
I, too, have had insane plaque buildup almost since day 1 of cutting out Vitamin A. Most of it is on the inside of my lower incisors. It lessens the farther back in my mouth you go, and it's much less on the upper teeth...clearly has something to do with the saliva. Most of the time it's at the margins of the teeth and down at the gum line, but sometimes there's a big glob randomly stuck square on the face of the tooth, and it appears literally overnight! I've been using a dental pick to carefully remove it.
Of course, it's possible that increased Vitamin A in the saliva is causing decalcification of the teeth, which results in loss of enamel and additional deposits of calcified plaque...I sure hope it's not dissolving our teeth though 🙁
My terrible gum recession has slowed, but I still get days where the nerves on some teeth feel exposed and the recession has not healed one bit.

>increased vitamin A in the saliva from eating a low vitamin A diet is causing my teeth to rot

Quote from Ourania on June 16, 2022, 10:05 amTo avoid reabsorbing carotenoids and vA most probably a good idea to do it with Olestra? Same kind of effect as petroleum based cream like Eucerin?
I am going to try this if I can get some Olestra. (which captures vA and carotenoids by the way). It looks like it is banned in most countries.
EDIT : Olestra is not found so we shall alternate coconut and sesame oils. Olive obviously is too green.

I was oil pulling with coconut oil every day for many many months during my low Vitamin A diet...I don't think it did anything beneficial for my mouth whatsoever, and when I asked my new holistic dentist what they thought about oil pulling, they said it probably won't hurt anything but there's not much evidence that it does anything useful.
