Eating liver and cancer

Ever since my interview with Judy Cho I’ve received a lot of emails (50+) from people who were eating liver and had subsequently developed serious disease. Mostly they were from people on the carnivore + liver diet, but also some from people following various other diet regiments that regularly included liver.  For the most part their stories have had a similar pattern.

When I first added liver to my diet, I felt great. Then, after a while, I started to feel bad, then really bad, and then terrible.

Several people have reported becoming so sick that they were bedridden for months and near death. Multiple people have reported developing rectal bleeding and colitis. Multiple people have reported that their bones have twisted or have become malformed. Multiple people have reported that their jaws have twisted, and they’ve developed gingivitis and gum disease. A few people have reported that their bones have shrunk and that they’ve lost body height. Remember, this severe effect on the bones is one of the de facto symptoms of vA toxicity.  It is also very consistent with the reports I’ve received from other people who have taken Accutane.  One person reported that it (the “active form” of the wonder vitamin) had shrunken their skull.

That all sounds pretty bad, and of course it is, but it gets worse.

As I mentioned in this blog post a few people have reported going on to develop cancer.  One report was from a ~ 40-year-old man. He and his wife had added liver to their diet because some health magazine “expert” had pitched it as a “super food.”

Within a few years his wife had developed a twisted jaw, a lot of very serious dental issues, and a bunch of other serious health issues. He developed rectal bleeding and colitis and gained a lot of weight. After seeing that interview with Judy they stopped eating the liver and are still making a very sloooooow recovery.  However, he also went on to develop breast cancer. But, not in just one breast, but in both at the same time. The tumours were just of different sizes. His oncologist asked him if he was Jewish, explaining that breast cancer in men was pretty rare (~ 3%) but it was incredibly rare to have it in both breasts at the same time. And telling him that this situation was known to almost exclusively occur in Ashkenazi Jewish men. But, no, he’s not Jewish. Fortunately, he’s had surgery, (no chemo and no radiation) and appears to have fully recovered from the cancer.

It’s important to know that Ashkenazi Jews don’t just have an increased incidence rate for cancer. They also have an increased risk for many other disease conditions as well, including Crohn’s and colitis. So, why is there this apparent increased risk for cancer, etc. among Ashkenazi Jews?  Well, of course, there are some medical “experts” claiming it’s due to their genetics.   For example:

Ashkenazi Jewish Heritage and Genetic Risk

Yes, that’s right, it’s the old “it’s your defective genes” card being played; one of the most favoured excuses of the medical establishment on why someone has developed a disease. It’s right up there with their other most preferred excuse of “it’s just bad luck”.  It can’t possibly be due to any other reason, such as food, right? Well, how about the fact that eating liver is rather common in Jewish culture and maybe more so in the Ashkenazi Jewish community?

So, no, sorry, it’s not genetics, it’s their food sourced vitamin A! Yep, it’s the wonder vitamin that can easily kill you.

Likewise for the modern-day Weston A Price cult pushing the insanity of consuming organs and cod liver oil.  First off, I think Weston A Price was a complete fraud.  He simply had to have been. I had spent time in the Canadian arctic in the 1980s, and the people there, and even young adults, generally had very poor health, and especially poor dental health. The region also has a high incidence rate of serious mental health issues at a young age, and especially so for women. This fact is completely confirmed by historical Stats Canada’s health census data for the region. The region also has one of the highest rates of cancer (including breast cancer) in Canada.  Not surprising to me, at all, is that some of the people in the current day Weston A Price foundation also have died from cancer at a young age.

Want cancer? Eat liver.

    1. Interesting about the WAPF recommendations. I once had a chiropractor who pushed those heavily, but I resisted. However, several years ago, I started taking “fermented” CLO — 1 tsp a day — hoping to improve my almost lifelong night blindness. Not only was there no improvement in my night blindness, but in just 2 months, I developed a very severe case of Graves’ Disease (autoimmune hyperthyroidism). It took 9 months to get my thyroid levels normalized, and my endocrinologist said that it was the worst case of Graves’ he had ever seen. I shudder to think what additional health problems I may have developed, had I continued with the CLO.

      1. Correction: I had had Graves’ Disease for a few years already — and it was very well-controlled — until I took CLO for 2 months. That’s when my levels went very high and couldn’t be normalized for 9 months.

  1. The counter argument WAPF gives on the Inuit diseases is that these are Inuit who are eating modern diets instead of the old way. How best to counter that?

Just about the Inuits and eating liver. Stefanson stated that when he lived with them (I think the 1930s) they were healthy, and they did NOT eat the liver. Fed it to the dogs, which supports your view.
And by the 1980s they surely would not be still eating in their traditional ways. Like other native Americans, do very poorly on modern western foods
