11.5 Year Update

Firstly, I want to say thank you to everyone who donated to help keep my forum up and running. I really appreciated the support. I received enough donations to cover my hosting fees for the next ~ 3 years.  No additional funding is needed, and I’ve since removed the donation button.

No 11 Year Update

I did not post an 11 Year update mostly because not much had changed for me health wise, at least not due to anything related to my diet. Although I continue with my very low vA diet, I feel that I accomplished my goal of going 10 years on negligible vA intake and not going blind and not dying from it.

MIA for most of 2025

I originally had plans to get more involved in this project after I retired. However, as we all know, life often intervenes with our plans. There was a tragedy in my immediate family in January of 2025. That deeply affected me. I was dealing with it okay until I retired, as my daily routine kept me busy and my mind occupied on work. However, shortly after I retired, I couldn’t keep myself from constantly dwelling on this event. I ended up getting incredibly stressed with months of many sleepless nights. That chronic stress eventually caught up to me and affected my health. I stopped working out and quickly lost 10 lbs.  I decided I needed to get away from everything and travelled for most of the second half of the year. Anyways, 2025 was not a good year for me.

Back in action for 2026

Well, I’m back at it. I will now get much more involved in this project again.  In my Ten-Year Update blog post I stated that I felt that the low vA project had good momentum to it and was generally in good shape.

Then in my Are Supplements Ruining the Low Vitamin A diet  blog post I raised the concern that all was not well, and that things were going sideways for too many people.

In response to that blog post Garrett Smith posted a bizarre rant and personal attack against myself over on Substack.  I was surprised he felt he needed to do that. Except, I’m not surprised by the ridiculous content.  If you had the unfortunate experience of reading Garrett’s rant, or maybe you took it at face value, I’ve posted my take on it over on Substack as well.

My Take on Garrett’s Rant

And I addressed some of his specific allegations and claims in these posts.

Anyways, given Garrett’s rant and other shenanigans going on it is now crystal clear to me that the low vitamin A project is in a mess. My original goal in this project was to help nudge the science forward on it. Now, having someone turn it into a major money-making operation by selling “programs”, “packages” and supplements is kind of a disaster. Having people think they need to buy “programs”, “packages” and supplements to succeed in the low vitamin A diet is probably the worst thing to happen to this project.

My immediate action plan

I’ll soon post a Getting Started and Success Guide to the low vitamin A diet.

I’ll also soon be posting YT videos explaining the key concepts of vitamin A toxicity, strategies and concepts for success with the low vitamin A diet and debunking some of the BS claims being made in this space.

  1. Hey Grant,

Just wanted to say its good to hear you will be back on the project and helping with the messaging regarding this topic. If it weren’t for this forum I would still be suffering from multiple health issues completely blind to what was causing them. My progress has been very slow, but I can confidently say my health is finally moving in the right direction. Unfortunately there doesn’t seem to be a way of expediting this process, especially when you’ve taken accutane and spent multiple years eating liver. Live and learn. Thanks again for your contributions here and hope your family is doing better. Look forward to your continued work.

  2. Grant,

It’s good to read your update, and looking forward to your new content. Sorry for your loss.

    Best regards,
    Navid

  3. Excellent. Good to read. Thank you. Add me, my wife, our dogs and chickens to the list of grateful to survive and learn from you entities.

It took 3 years to get this healthy recovering from high vitamin A intake in vegetables, organ meat, fish,….. Recovery road has been slow and steep. Life is almost confusing now that my sleep is the better than I ever got in previous 65 years. Performance is improving faster than I can remember even 50 years ago. Recovery time on hard training is best ever now too. While it is fun to spook people out when they see old guy move, it is scary to do these things that used to wreck me. I keep thinking, “Oh man, tomorrow morning is going to be harsh.” And it never is.

This is a good problem to have. Thank you. Here is to going forward with a diet 90% of the world would gladly live in a prison to get daily and the performance that obviously comes from it.

    Thank you again ZDB.
Ps. What is that rock you are standing on?

  4. Very grateful to you. We both are much better thanks to you and wish you a very good Year 2026? I wonder if EBOO would help speeding up detox without too much trouble? Due to the filtration involved? I have posted on it in the Forum. Best wishes!

Thank you so much for everything! I’m sorry for the very difficult year you had, and especially sorry that you had to suffer so much stress from being attacked by someone who took your ideas and spun it into a business. Things got really weird with him a long time ago and I’m glad I stepped away from all that. In this life there is always an evil force that wants to twist the truth and it’s a battle for sure. Hang in there – God loves you
