10 months low vitamin A diet

PreviousPage 2 of 2

The problem is rarely, almost never, a deficiency. The OP has started to eat something that makes him sick.

The ingrained thinking is: you feel bad = you are missing a nutrient. Which is very rarely the case.

Folks, even if he ONLY had white potatoes, he would be fine. Just look at the folks who exist on potatoes only. Like the Australian SpudFit who only ate potato for a year. It is very, very hard to become deficient in any nutrient these days. Also, the required level of any nutrient intake is so arbitrary. How would anyone know how much of each nutrient you need in a day/week/months.

I am sure an “expert” could find several missing nutrients in Grant’s diet and declare him theoretically deficient in those. But the human body does not work like that. Nutrients do not work alone. Vitamin C itself does not cure scurvy, either.

The OP needs to find what it is in his diet that makes him feel bad.

Black beans triggers my VA symptoms. If I were you i'd go back to that initial diet that seemed to help, chicken and potatoes.

All,

I wanted to post an update. I am not sure if I am logged in or not, but this is Mike, the original poster. I started eating a diet of only beef. Yes, you read that correctly. I started 1 week ago. I felt better almost immediately. I no longer get neck pain. My brain fog is gone. What I am eating is called carnivore diet or "zero carb" diet. Feel free to research it if you are interested. Yes, I know it has no vitamin C. That is fine because I am not eating carbs, so I am not using vitamin C anymore. I may add some salt, but so far haven't felt the need to.

Something about carbs upsets my system right now. I don't know exactly what. I am hoping the carnivore diet will heal my gut. The all beef diet also happens to be low in vitamin A, so hopefully I will be able to decrease my vitamin A levels in my body also. I plan to give the carnivore diet a 1 year trial, and November 2019 I will try eating potatoes again and see what happens.

I will post another update at the end of January 2019. By then, I should know more about how my body is feeling on the carnivore diet. I heard it takes 6 weeks for people to get over the initial adjustment from the carnivore diet.

Thank you all for the suggestions.

Hey Mike,

Pleased you've found something that works. I have heard that some people have developed some symptoms of scurvy doing the carnivore diet, so just keep a lookout for that. They went away upon supplementing small amounts of ascorbic acid, so very easy to deal with if it does arise.

Hope things continue to improve for you, and keep us posted!

I’ve heard that very fresh meat has some vitamin C but it’s pretty hard to get very fresh meat unless you are hunting the animal yourself. Even then I have no idea how much you’d get.

white rice is an interesting one, high levels of unbound heavy metals. best bet is basmati from india and some purblack shilajit/humic and fulvic acid
