7 weeks: blood in toliet bowl

After over a week of 500 mg activated charcoal with every meal, I'm regularly having blood with defecation, often enough to color the toliet bowl water, although I'm not straining and have adequate fiber.  Witch hazel pads don't seem to help.

I'm also having frequent rectal pain (burning) lately, although oddly it seems to strengthen and lessen with no obvious schedule, not directly connected to the bleeding.

Since my overall mental health and energy seem somewhat improved, I suspect that I'm detoxing something inflammatory out of my belly fat (which is disappearing) into my gut and colon, where it sits and burns.

As a kid, I once had dramatic blood with stool and was examined by a doctor; he said it wasn't serious and to increase fiber.

I've had flare-ups and pain before.  There's never an obvious cause or solution.  I assume it will go away eventually.

I've recently started aluminum hydroxide in attempt to bind more toxins.

Any suggestions or shared experiences?

Isn't aluminum as big no-no, avoid at all costs?

I think dropping all supplements and rely on food is the best approach, beef, rice and beans as staples, should cover pretty much all the needed nutrients.

You seem to be playing a dangerous game. How can you not think of stopping the activated charcoal and see if symptoms stop?

My theory would be the retinoic acid is being excreted through your bile, which is burning as it sits there until you defecate.

Despite continuing activated charcoal with every meal, there's not blood/pain with every bowel movement.  It appears to correlate with other symptoms that come and go:

  • feeling of urgency
  • noisy gut sounds
  • confusion/tiredness, especially after exposure to sunlight or heat, not sure, or drinking water

I'm not sure it's worthwhile to document my symptoms since I don't have clear answers.  In general, it does seem that I'm having longer (several hours) and more frequent (every few days) periods of feeling okay, less frequent/severe depression, and I'm able to work a few hours about every day now.

The weird thing about the pain is... it moves.  If I stand or sit, my rectum hurts.  If I lie on my back, the rectum stops hurting and my gut hurts a little, more in the back.  If I lie on my stomach with head propped up, my gut hurts a little in the front.  It's like my body has pain fluid slowly pooling wherever gravity takes it.

For a few hours on Wednesday I had a clear brain again.  Maybe I'm getting somewhere.

activated charcoal with every meal sounds absolutely insane

aluminum is a potent neurotoxin, i think you might have gone crazy. even if the aluminum hydroxide is stable antiacids are terrible for you

you're probably not digesting any of your meals properly

Although I did nothing to try to fix it, the rectal blood/pain is now reduced and closer to the level I'd had at various times throughout the last couple years.  It seems consistent with often having dry eyes, blood in nasal mucus, sore in mouth, slightly burning urethrae, and foot skin that's very dry.

I suspect that continuing with black beans, activated charcoal, and the Rulox (containing aluminum hydroxide) has helped me to "mop up" retinoids.  I've been having a couple more days per week with reduced brain fog and with the energy to run a couple miles.  When I've briefly stopped those things a couple times, I seemed to get worse.  In particular, I'd feel good upon waking, but maybe two hours later, brain fog would descend for the rest of the day.

I'm not sure what causes hardened stools, but my latest guess is too much protein leading to a kind of dehydration that's not easily fixed by just drinking water.  I've usually been eating 68 grams/day of protein, which isn't particularly high, but lately I had been increasing that.
