7 year carnivore with Bean Protocol
Quote from Dustin on November 5, 2022, 3:25 pmHey folks new here.. I'm a 50yr old male not jabbed who had Accutane as a kid lots of carrots n milk my whole life and the healthy end of a Standard American diet but locked up in my room with Halloween candy every year till about 17. Things were okay till I got chronic tendinitis in both arms and legs at age 35 which left me handicapped for 7 years in which I developed anxiety varicose veins tinnitus IBS and you name it.. after trying everything possible I landed on carnivore. Within 2 months everything was gone and my health just got better n better, been carnivore for 7 years now.
Then the plandemic started and I started cheating more with alcoholic seltzer coffee and marijuana which made me cheat more with foods. At least 1-3 times a week. I also might have had beef liver once every 3 or 4 months througout the 7 years but just felt better on high fat n muscle meats no supplements no fish poultry or dairy and no salt. I break out in psoriasis if I have eggs.. Well as of this year I've been getting more acid reflux, brain fog, psoriasis dandruff and my tinnitus is ringing a lot louder. Last time I had liver during a fast 2 months ago I got sick with a cold/flu for the first time in 7 years.. Then I just stumbled on this vA toxicity. My idea in all this is I only make bowel movements every 1-3 days because of lack of bulk/waste in carnivore and threw the 7 years I was keeping good balance of the vA though not detoxing as well with it and unknowingly adding in more to the mix till I'm now oversaturated. My approach now is that I have a blood donation for Monday which I haven't done in 8 years and then adding the bean protocol makes good sense to me that I'm just reabsorbing the vA and not flushing it through. I need a binder cause carnivore and water just isn't doing it. So I'm adding a tablespoon of black beans in 3 times a day till I move up to 4x then 5x a day. Lowered my high fat to moderate fat, doing more raw on the lean meats, cutting out ghee, and water intake the same though spread out more. I've always eaten one meal a day and water mostly in that time frame as well.I see no carnies here adding the beans just either all meats or the bean rice meat thing. Why is that? Seems like that small addition would be helpful since everything else is nutrient dense with the meats.

Welcome!
Were you drinking alcohol during your 7 years of carnivore? What exactly were you eating on carnivore?
Having a bowel movement infrequently should only be a problem if the waste/toxins get reabsorbed from the distal end of the colon. From what I've read, that doesn't happen, but if someone has a publication that says otherwise I would certainly be interested to see it. That part of the colon is basically supposed to manage water content of the stool and therefore shouldn't have transport mechanisms for waste/toxins or nutrients.

Quote from Dustin on November 5, 2022, 4:53 pmThe first 4 years I was super strict rare to raw beef 1 can of sardines a week no other animals high fat no salt no alcohol and long periodic stints of coffee enemas either weekly or daily and sometimes months without. Then 3 years ago in came alcohol at least once a week then periods of every other day and periods of weeks of drinking then periods of months without. For me a light cheat would be a cucumber peeled and seeded maybe 100 times, A medium cheat would be a salad with blue cheese dressing 40ish times a big cheat would be a bag of some kind of chips or a Chipotle bowl 20ish times in 7yrs and a mega cheat would which probably only happened 8-10 times in the 7 years was a pint or half gallon of ice cream.

Quote from Dustin on November 5, 2022, 5:05 pmI only make movements every 1-3 days so that toxin loaded bile is sitting somewhere for a very long time. I've been burnt so many times looking into studies that send off on some path where I end up worse so carnivore was so easy though I wonder now if that alcohol and liver did some damage I'm not doing coffee enemas anymore so I have no major detox pathway other then breath movement and excretion, so I figure a tiny bit of beans spread out through the day would get things moving to be 2x a day compared to every 1-3days, that's a 50-80% increase in excrement which is huge. The blood letting is definitely going to help and I should mention I also drink distilled water which from what I see is a better detoxification for cleaning the system. I'm also moving a lot more bought a mini trampoline at least 9000 steps a day which is about 4+miles which gets lymphatic moving.

Alcohol detoxification occupies one of the primary pathways of Vitamin A metabolism using the alcohol dehydrogenase enzyme system, so alcohol consumption most likely slows your liver's ability to get rid of excess Vitamin A. That could be one way you wound up with problems.
I don't see those coffee enemas doing anything good for you either...coffee's not healthy whether it goes down your throat or up your other hole, but at least your body is made to deal with things like coffee going down your throat...enemas are highly unnatural and therefore probably risky, particularly using anything aside from water.

You could always try magnesium to get your bowels moving.

You could also try lactoferrin. Supposedly useful for some liver problems. I feel like it gave me diarrhea on a carnivore diet, but if you start with small doses and gradually increase you might find a useful amount for your issues. Not sure why it would give me diarrhea except that it appears to increase the amount of bile acids that go into the colon.

Quote from Dustin on November 5, 2022, 5:50 pmSo you recommend all those though not any soluble fiber even spread out throughout the day? I try and avoid any supplements and stick to whole foods when I can. I hear the psyllium husk can do a similar thing as beans does that sound better in small spread out doses?

If you're inclined to experiment with fiber, then have at. I'm just trying to provide some alternatives that I think are more in line with the rationale behind a carnivore diet (avoiding plant toxins). Psyllium probably has a higher ratio of soluble to insoluble fiber than beans, fewer antinutrients (no lectins to speak of apparently), and is much less fermentable than beans.
If your reasoning for avoiding supplements is that they're not natural, I would suggest you ask the question: how natural is it to consume mutant plant foods that we've only recently created via intensive agriculture? I personally try to avoid supplements as much as possible, but if the alternative to supplements is something with plant toxins, then I'm not sure the choice is clear cut.

Quote from Andrew B on November 6, 2022, 1:35 amI would caution against doing high amounts of beans. It was problems with 250 grams a day of beans that started my searching for answers a year and a half ago. What I found is the too much folate (or fibre speeds up detox) pushes you down one pathway and you might need some balance. What ultimately has helped me is eating 4 eggs a day. Some might only need 1 or 2. Some people might be able to eat enough beef for choline but that wasn't me. Eating eggs actually help me have less reactions to cruciferous vegetables and beans. Eating eggs has reduced cravings, improved digestion and reduced leakiness in the system. I also eat organic spelt flour, quinoa and beetroot to get some betaine which also helps conserve choline.
