A case of Severe Vitamin A Toxicity

Hello everyone.  I'm Sean and this is my first post having just joined today.  I found an article about a 4 year old treated for toxicity.

"Parents brought an otherwise healthy, 4-year-old boy to the emergency department with complaints of polydipsia, fatigue, irritability, cheilitis, and a refusal to bear weight for 2 days. "

"A review of his diet showed that he predominantly consumed a plant-based diet, with an overall high vitamin A intake from a different source. The boy’s main sources of vitamin A included kale, green vegetables, fruit, and meat (nonliver), plus a multivitamin containing vitamin A as β-carotene. Moreover, his parents revealed that he was taking cod liver oil supplements for over a year, however, he had stopped taking cod liver oil supplements several months prior to this presentation."

A Case of Severe Vitamin A Toxicity

Thanks for having me in the club!  I look forward to future interactions and education!  I have read a bunch of stuff the past 2 weeks, and feel that it is obvious that my family needs to reduce our VA intake.  I started my diet on Sunday.  We'll see how this goes!

Hi @sean. Welcome.
Thanks for linking this article; very telling. This is when parents attempt to do everything to keep their children healthy.
My mother made an effort to do so with carrot juice and cod liver oil. Little wonder I was always sick.

Yikes. Someparents out there could make a kid long for an orphanage. Let's hope the kid recovered.

If I may ask, what kind of vA toxicity symptoms are you looking to address?
