A light at the end of the tunnel?

Hi everyone.

I, like many others around the globe, have been struck down by the poison known as accutane.

I suffer from a laundry list of side effects, and for over a year since I have been hit hard nothing that I have tried seemed to work, and infact my condition just seemed to progress and my health continued to deteriorate as a result of this medication.

I have recently encountered Grant's work, and it seems to me like the only thing that is left to try to escape from this hell.

Along the way I have met someone very dear to my heart who was also hit hard by this drug, and we both decided to dedicate ourselves to the 0 Vitamin A diet with patience and meticulous care and document our progress.

For the first time in a long time, we finally see a ray of hope, and a shot at getting better.

I will update every several weeks about any changes I notice in my condition, and hopefully I will have some good news to share with you all.

Wish you all good health and an end to your sufferings.

Hey @ido,  thanks for joining the discussion, will be looking forward to your progress.

I am at 4 months very low VA, and almost 2 months now of zero VA intake.  So closing in on 6 month mark, there are lots of ups and downs, with *detox*.  I am a 2 time accutane user, along with high dose cod liver oil, high dose retinyl palmitate, and lots of carotenoids, dairy, eggs and liver on top.  Side effects are improving, but seems it could take much longer to get full remission after accutane.  So be patient, it is a long road.

thank you so much for your response.. it really helps getting support.

I'm so happy to hear your doing better.

I was hit really hard by it, with literally every rare side effect. I pray in 6 months ill see a difference

Hi Ido,

Are you by any chance located in Israel? (I ask because of your name.) That's where I'm based and I'm slowly trying to build momentum around the vitamin A issue.

Also, you should check out Dr. Garrett Smith's work at nutritionrestored.com. He has taken Grant's work very seriously and developed a vitamin-A detox protocol that I and others have found very helpful. The price for the protocol is now only $40. You would do well to get yourself a full 'nutritional restoration' treatment from him, but at several hundred dollars that may be out of your price range.

Best of luck to you in your struggle!

Yep i am located in Israel, near Haifa.

I am in really awful shape so I am just going beef white rice black beans and water nothing else.

I will see if there is any progress with this, and based on results I might very well contact the doc you have mentioned.

I'm in Tel Aviv. I'm sure the restriction diet will help you, but there are other things you can do to help soften and/or speed up the detox process. I'd like to help. Please e-mail me at joshg99<at>pm<dot>me

I am also consuming taurine, zinc, and activated charcoal as supplements by grants recommendations.

ive been at it for 4 days now and the bone and joint pain is excruciating i find it hard to walk..its interesting because it got much worse now.

I don't know if it's detox, but it makes sense. I think a lot of people tend to experience detox only after a couple of weeks, but every case is unique. I've got some other things that can help with detox symptoms. Get in touch. And don't give up!

You should probably add vitamin E to what you're taking: https://nutritionrestored.com/blog-forum/topic/vitamin-e/

Hi Josh!  I just posted my story in this discussion board.  I am a friend of Ido's, unfortunately because of the destruction of Accutane.

What do you recommend for Vitamin E?  Per Grant, this should not be via supplementation.

Thank you!

Hi Michele,

Just read your story. Toxic tears -- what a nightmare!

Where does Grant recommend against vitamin E supplementation? I missed that. See my link above to Garrett Smith's discussion of vitamin E on his nutrition restored site. You can decide from that if you think it's OK, and he also gives there a specific product recommendation. I also strongly encourage you to invest $40 in his detox protocol. Lots of great advice. Also lists of chemicals containing retinol that you find in skin care products, etc. And lots of other good info, like things you can do to help speed up the detox and soften its effects. If I were in your situation and could afford it, I would pay for his full nutritional restoration program.

If you don't want to do vitamin E supplements, sunflower is a very good source of vitamin E. You can eat sunflower seeds and/or drink 2 tbs of sunflower oil per day. You should get organic cold pressed sunflower oil (per Garrett's recommendation). See Garrett's Amazon product recommendation page on his blog for a specific product recommendation. I also linked to it in a different thread -- see my recent post history. Do you also live in Israel? I bought some organic cold pressed sunflower oil at a natural food store in Tel Aviv. Not hard to come by.

Zinc is also important. Tehini is a good source (and sesame seeds more generally). Also good for vitamin E.
