@lil-chick , Thanks. I was just going to hide away for awhile 🙂 but here I am again. This is the first forum I've ever contributed to so it's a bit of a learning curve. When I submit something I seem to immediately worry this or that will be misinterpreted or I should have omitted something or said something another way. I don't worry about it too too much though...not good for our health right?

You're right, if you feel stressed and things are suddenly not going so well,  it is hard to not hyperventilate!

Anyway, if your nose gets stuffed up after you say you tend to pant, this Buteyko theory would say your body is trying to conserve CO2 in response to the panting and does that by narrowing your breathing passages i.e. stuffing up your nose. People with asthma especially find great relief breathing less. Even mainstream press sometimes acknowledges this. https://www.nytimes.com/2009/11/03/health/03brod.html

I remember reading someone posting about pH on this forum and it prompted me to write all this today.  (I just got an update today from a Buteyko site I subscribed to awhile ago). Something I read on that site today that I found very interesting: since fungi produce CO2, candida growth may be a way for the body to increase CO2 if we are lacking enough of it. if so, crazy how this body of ours works, but I believe largely, if not always, in our best interest.

Hi Sheila

I am more of a lurker than a poster because I suffer such anxiety when posting.  I worry a lot about what people think and whether or not I have offended people.  I find it v hard to cope with negative responses as that generates worry that I've done the wrong thing.  It all goes round and around until I regret having posted at all and vow never to do so again.  So you are not alone in struggling with it.
I have really enjoyed reading your posts and found them thoughtful and helpful.

I have read a fair bit over recent years about the Buteyko method and think over breathing is a problem for a lot of people.  I don't do the exercises but I am much more aware and have stopped a lot of bad habits and tend to default to nose breathing now.

I think the role of breathing in pH regulation is relevant and easily overlooked.  It's amazing to think that we can influence something like pH simply through the way we breathe.  Well simple in theory, though not always in practice.

Rachel, it does take some thick skin sometimes to participate in open forums.  I still like it though.  hee hee  I never learn.

@lil-chick. Thanks for responding after me which helped me... to get back up on that bike I felt I just fell off of 🙂

@rachel   Lurking lol. That's what I was doing for a few months! Thank you for your encouraging words. I should know by now I can't be the only one struggling with posting. It's hard when you are a very private person. I decided to post initially because I reasoned if Grant had not shared what he discovered with us , well, I for one, probably would have never known about the hazards of 'vitamin A. Now I'm shocked at some of the items that are for sale at health food stores that I, unknowingly, took over many years.

And you know about Buteyko! Now I'm thinking probably many people here have heard of it because we've looked into everything over the years.  I've been down a lot of rabbit holes but Buteyko,  like Grant's theory, just made so much sense to me. And I think oxygenating our tissues better can only help with detoxing VA . I would have never thought on my own that breathing less and 'not eating a rainbow every day' would be healthier for me!  All I can say is we sure live in an upside-down world and there are not many people in my life I can say that to.

(Not a big TV watcher these days but this all reminds me of an old Seinfeld episode where one character, George, did the opposite to what he thought he should do and everything started going well in his life.)

@rachel @sheilae

That posting anxiety, i used to have it as well. Severely. Also IRL, constant worry of what others might think and if I may had offended anyone. Foe me it is also related to childhood but I believe A poisoning contributed and made it worse. But it has actually gotten a lot better. A lot!! Not completely gone, I have my days, but I believe it will disappear with time, like so many other things. I am sure it will get better for you too 🙂  maybe something to keep track of? 🙂

Ladies, I must admit that I hesitate to post too!!

A few weeks ago while readng on another forum, I found a negative comment
about a post I had made on this forum. This was quite disheartening! My inclination was to stop posting here.

I never dreamed that someone would think that I might be lying about improvements I've had in my health since going low/no Vitamin A!

My skin may be getting smoother, but this journey is toughening it as well!

FWIW anything I post is written in truth (as I see it), never with an intent to boast and never, never have I or wil I knowingly post a lie.

Many thanks to Grant and to ALL forum members. I appreciate your input and regard it as written with the best of intentions.

@liz , yes, you are right... I should track my 'posting anxiety' and anxiety in general which I notice was getting worse as I got older. I used to feel quite resilient but not in the last few years. My skin was getting thinner literally and figuratively. I know I'm on the right track though. I seem to have lots more energy these days and my skin is slowly improving. (I sometimes imagine my body going 'thank you thank you!' for finally giving up liver and big green salads neither of which I ever wanted.) Good to know this anxiety issue improved for you.

@dswl, Thank you for your post! It reminded me of reading through some of the Ray Peat forum on this topic and some posts are so sarcastic, mean, and dismissive. My heart starts beating faster and I get upset just reading them! I sure admire the commenters who manage to stand up to the naysayers with logical arguments for days on end for the benefit of others still on the fence. (That RP diet is loaded with retinol!) Anyway, it's good there are people who can do that. I think controversy energizes some people. For me, I know it dissipates my energy.

Thank you for that quote!

@dswl  Shoot, I guess I just got into writing about the RP forum and was left feeling I didn't really acknowledge what happened to you.  I just wanted to say I think that's awful that someone accused you of not being truthful about something you posted. That's so wrong. It's difficult enough for some of us to post anything personal even if it is kind of anonymous.  I would have felt exactly the same way and probably would have just decided to stop posting. Maybe that is the aim of some of these people... to get others to stop posting positive things happening to our health when we stop eating VA. Anyway, skin toughening for sure. take care.

Thanks, Sheila.   And yes, the RP Forum can be quite entertaining!      When lurking there  I  often skip the naysayers' nonsense;  I've learned a great deal from the pro-Low/Zero Vitamin A  posters there.   Even though I'm not inclined to jump into the RP waters, I'm thankful for the  forum .  I would guess that many  Vitamin A toxicity followers heard of Grant's theory through the RP Forum.   BTW it is not the forum where my integrity  was questioned.

Thanks for your inputs, Sheila. I doubt however that breathing alone could counteract the possible imbalance coming from nutrition.

I looked some times ago into Buteyko method, and it made me for the least dubious. For instance, I saw a tv story about  the Buteyko clinic, and the commentors noticed that doctors teaching Buteyko breathing to children weren't breathing themselves by the method.
