Ah, I see, the "food scientists" -- at it again!

Quote from Liz on May 8, 2023, 11:26 pmKaren says canned beans are just fine, also organic not necessary if one cannot afford it. But baked should be rinsed due to sugar content. She also says never ever eat liver.
However I do not believe it is a good idea to make up ones own bean protocol and call it that, because it can backfire and then people go "uh I tried it and it was shit". Eat beans if you want, eat nuts/seeds (1,5h away from beans) cut out sugar and caffeine, cut out all smells and perfumes, cut out alcohol, cut out SFA and dairy, avoid soy, flax and cinnamon, avoid teas and herbal teas, rest a lot, manage stress. NO SUPPLEMENTS. But it will not be the bean protocoll unless coming from the horse's mouth.
I personally believe Grants success being partially due to eating beans 3 times a day, I do not think he would have healed without those soluble fiber. 6 times a day would have been faster. Always away from fat so no fat with beans. Anyone can incorporate beans into their diet without calling it the bean protocol, or psyllium. But I recommend going to the source if one actually wants to try and heal from specific ailments Because it is a lot more than just "eating beans" and she will personally help tweak diet so it fits each and everyones digestive issues and situations. Some gets to do psyllium, some has to eat beans every 20 minutes. Some do protein 6x a day. She has people with gut issues on white diet at first and very very slowly introduce beans later on. Because she knows all those fiber will kill their gut. Her aim is to heal people as fast as possible hence the strictness. When healed health can be maintained with beans 3x a day and one no longer needs to separate beans from fat.
Fun fact, it was Unique Hammond who cane up with the name "bean protocol". Karen just called it eat good foods.

It does seem like many people just throw out the long list of do's and don'ts and add beans to their life though. Is that the crux of it?
I wonder if we could come up with a little Karen Hurd inspired bean protocol of our own. Perhaps there already is one developing here, from some of the posts I've seen, and it even agrees with what Grant eats.
Is it just "add a little bit of beans at every meal"?
One question I would have is possibly with the delicate guts here we might have to ease in very slowly.
I'm thinking my husband might have trouble detoxing.
Soak overnight in water and add a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar . and cook them long enough in a pressure cooker . Black beans and white beans ( canenelli ) both of them are easy on gut . Not red kidney beans .

He didn't eat beans for the first year, and yet he healed during that year. Maybe not as quickly as he later did with beans, but still. Fiber isn't necessary to detox but it probably helps.

I’ve always had my doubts that Grant’s initial healing was due to Vitamin A detox.
Beef and white rice just happen to be the least offensive foods for people with autoimmune diseases, this is pretty well known. A perfect elimination diet.
There’s still doubts about some aspects of his long term healing since he only consumes 3 foods… I wonder what would happen if he ate a tomato. In theory, it should not cause any problems, given his current suspected vitamin A status, but I guess we’ll never know.

I have zero doubts about it since I was on the same diet for a while, progressively detoxing and improving, and doing "challenges" with VA foods & supplements making VA symptoms come back again predictably.

Quote from Chris on May 9, 2023, 8:41 amHer avoidance of SFA doesn't make ANY sense to me from an evolutionary standpoint. Humans evolved eating SFA from animal sources. We've been eating it for hundreds of thousands of years. I know Dr. Smith also has a low-ish fat take on on things, and I'm ok with that. The rise of modern diseases over the past 120 years or so can't possibly correlate with something we've been eating for eternities.

I didn't notice that when I read the e-books. What did Grant eat for the first year? Just rice and beef?

He said it in a blog post or comment or forum post. Just rice and beef if I remember correctly, or maybe he took some olive oil as well, I can't quite remember. But he said he didn't start eating beans until about a year in.

Then, learning a bit more about flax seed I changed to beans. The primary reason for selecting beans was because i felt they provided bothcalcium and fiber."
