Beware bakery items at Canadian Safeway

I was at a Safeway store here in Calgary and noticed the ingredients in some of the in-store bakery’s cookies. They contain both vitamin A palmitate and beta carotene.

It’s the same for other varieties of their cookies.

@ggenereux2014 I believe this is due to the margarine which it is listed under.  Never buy foods with margarine listed, since margarine is fortified by regulation.   I grew up on skim milk and margarine, double dose of retinyl palmitate!

Hi @orion,

Yes, you're right. Thanks for pointing that out. I'm guessing that margarine is used in many of their bakery products and not just cookies.

Thanks

@ggenereux2014

Interesting info about how they "fortify" oils and margarines with poisons: https://www.dsm.com/content/dam/dsm/nip/en_US/documents/oils.pdf

Hi @guitarhero,

Thanks for sharing that. I actually had no idea that even basic oils are being supplemented with vA.

Sweden fortifies canola oil used in food aid programs with 15 mgvitamin A/g oil. Canada has adopted an even higher level of 22.5mg vitamin A/g canola oil used in food aid programs.

This is either the biggest debacle in human history, or the biggest scam...

I don't know how I ended up on this blog called "no more fake news" today, but I thought the post was kind of funny and applicable to your comment,

"“Don’t blame us. We’re too stupid to know what we’re doing. Of course, we SEE what we’re doing, but there is a distinction between seeing and knowing. Our people are sorting out that distinction now, and we’ll get back to you with clarifications, as we can.”

Mayors, governors, presidents, prime ministers, dictators, kings, queens, popes, potentates

Guitar hero's pointer is about supplementing oils used for "aid" -- I would wonder if this applies to school's foods.

Hi @lil-chick,

I was wondering about almost the same question. How much of our domestic canola oil supply is "fortified" too?

Then, thinking about the poor people in South America and South East Asia where this "AID" is being shipped out to, they are getting a double whammy because vA  is being added to their sugar too.

I've considered restaurant fried food poison to me for years, @are, FWIW.   Nothing else has caused as many food attacks for me.  The health of the workers and regulars in a diner in my town is HORRIBLE (one middle-aged waitress recently had a stroke, the another is obese and many of the regulars arrive like the walking wounded).  Police whose lifestyle is based on the donut shop seem to all get fatty liver disease, every one of them.

I have never associated bagged industrial potato chips with food attacks (I'm not saying they are healthy though, LOL).

When I was a waitress, (this was long ago) the cook filled the deep fryer with a thing called mel-fry.  I just looked up the ingredients with google, they are:  "INGREDIENTS: COTTONSEED OIL, CANOLA OIL, TBHQ AND CITRIC ACID ADDED TO PROTECT FLAVOR, DIMETHYLPOLYSILOXANE, AN ANTI-FOAMING AGENT ADDED"

Do they need to list VA?
