Butter related symtoms?
Quote from Liz on January 22, 2019, 9:40 pmI have noticed some mornings, more often than not, my pulse is on the higher end when I wake up. I have also started sleeping less (6-ish hours to my normal 7-8) unable to go back asleep. Don't know if this is good or bad yet ๐ค
Anyway, i had 2 home made cookies with butter some days ago and the morning after my pulse was my normal low again. Don't know if it was the butter or something else, but did not change anything else in my diet.
But that evening i had an itch on both legs and the day after my non-eczema leg was very itchy which it normally isnt. Don't know if this is good or bad either or even related. My itchyness has decreased a lot overall and most days I don't itch.
Any thoughts or input would be interesting to hear. I have not found out if butter is a friend or a foe yet but it leans towards foe.
When I excluded all traces of milk in my diet and stopped with high A foods last spring, my leg eczema went away in a week. 4 months later i did a caseine experiment for a few weeks and eczema came back with a vengence on the opposite leg. This time after going full blown vit a free i still have a bit of eczema left and I don't get why it has not completely disappeared this time when my food is strict now but I still ate daily fruits and vegs and occational eggs last spring? ๐ค

Quote from Guest on January 23, 2019, 4:40 amLiz, I remember that Grant questiones whether or not butter would be a better oil than olive oil for his use. ย ย I use a small amount periodically. ย I seem to be okay with a small smear of button on potatoes or rice, but more than that brings ย a return of ย bone and joint pain, burning tongue, and stomach pain.

Quote from somuch4food on January 23, 2019, 4:54 amMaybe, it was because of spring time. Winter is rough on the skin. Or you could be missing a nutrient you got from the foods you were eating before.

Quote from somuch4food on January 23, 2019, 6:32 amI also seem to sleep less when I eat an ideal diet of low A. At first, I thought it was insomnia that was still ongoing. After a few days though, I noticed that when I was waking up at 5am, I was not feeling anxious or hungry which is usually the case when I have insomnia. I was feeling rested and ready to start the day.
About butter, I'm in the process of reducing dairy and still don't have an opinion on it.
I must that I used a bit more plant-based oils yesterday and feel it helped significantly more than butter ever has.

I've been shifting towards sunflower oil and grapeseed oil, and it has been helpful for me as well. I've been believing too much of the fear mongering in other online communities, rather than experimenting and listening to my body.

How's your digestion been? I find that I have increased itchiness when I'm not regular. Also, are you including a source of Vitamin E in your diet? I'd even experiment with cookies using 50/50 butter/sunflower oil. I'm beginning to think that dairy products need to be balanced with a source of Vitamin E if they are to be eaten.

DWL: i had my spine pain return aftwr eating a lot of butter when visiting friends one night, but it could have been the saffron combined as well. Took 2 days for it to go away. I want to be able to eat butter so bad but just as Grant I remain skeptical. My parents are eating butter though and they are having improvements.
Somuch4food: yeah I thought it was returning insomnia for me too, waking up at 4:40 is not normal for me at all. I think there is a pattern, less sleep (ca 6 hours) for a few days and then one with more (7-8). Time will tell I guess :). First time I had a fat splurge on this diet was with refined olive oil and I felt awesome the next day. I have intermittently added more fat to my diet after that. Good input regarding winter. Regarding nutrients- I used to eat like 2-4 lbs of veggies a day ๐๐, egg yolks, butter and whatnot.. I am just not sure the micronutrients are that important anymore ๐ค
YH: i have used mainly refined olive oil while on this diet but have now switched to cold pressed sunflower oil. I have udo's on the way as well. Gonna give it a try and see if my dry skin improves faster ๐
For vit E i eat sunflower seeds almost daily and I go at least once daily. Optimally three but that is rare and I dunno how to tweak my diet, haven't figured it out. Else my digestion is shitloads better (pun intended) from my veggie days and stomach is always flat after eating. I do still lean towards "constipation" lately although still going once a day. It's been like that since the anaesthesia and morphine some weeks back but also it does not make sense it lingers that long so it must be diet. Or endometriosis which can cause the same. I have never been able to figure it out.
However.. And i appologize for tmi - i HAVE noticed the color has changed to lighter and the "wipings" are yellow (!) and have been for weeks. I assume betacarotene is coming out ๐

Quote from Liz on February 4, 2019, 3:12 amI have started re-evaluate butter I think. Before surgery I started eating very small ammounts daily for maybe a week, probably like a teaspoon or so, and my leg itch that had increased again stopped and my leg eczema that wont fully go away (and actually came back a little) started improving a little.
Now is day 5 after surgery (will raise another thread about this when I have mote energy) and I have been mainly fasting for 4 days. I have had no itching and eczema is visibly gone. Fasting for vit A depletion might not be so bad? ๐ค Anyway, will continue with my small daily ammounts of butter and see how the itch + eczema will respond.
