Canker Sores
Quote from lil chick on October 8, 2025, 10:05 amFrom Google:"Canker sores, also known as aphthous ulcers, are small, painful, round or oval ulcers that develop in the mouth.Causes: The exact cause of canker sores is unknown, but possible triggers include: Stress, Trauma to the mouth, Food allergies or sensitivities, Hormonal changes, and Viral infections.Symptoms:
- Small, white or yellow-colored ulcers with a red border
- Pain, especially when eating or drinking
- Burning or tingling sensation
- Bad breath"
This is a thread for people to discuss canker sores and whether they may be related to vA overload
Please note these are quite different than cold sores and seem to have an entirely different cause.
Several blurbs I have read related canker sores to Lupus (which to me could be another word for vA overload)

Quote from lil chick on October 8, 2025, 10:15 amNow, there are canker sores that are just irritating, but then there are the more debilitating ones. The type in which you can barely eat, you cannot speak, and life becomes very exhausting.
I've had two of the more debilitating ones and I came down with them in similar circumstances.
First, there was an injury (ie bit cheek or tongue while eating)
I was traveling (which has always been stressful to me, I'm not a good traveler), sleeping in hotel accommodations (ie not sleeping well at all), off my usual food routine, expected to be social (me the hermit) and with additional worries and heart aches.
After reading Karen Hurd's story of being poisoned with bug killer I can't help but wonder if hotel accommodations also come along with an exposure to bed bug/ cockroach/ant killer. I have also seen that airplanes are bombed with bug killers. I have thought that my most recent travel accommodations had a smell that might have been insecticide. My nose works great now!
I have thought that all of my travel woes might be about motion, but maybe some of them are about not being able to handle any extra toxins... As a person with vA overload.

Quote from lil chick on October 8, 2025, 10:20 amI find it very interesting that lots of internet blurbs associate Canker Sores with Lupus.
If I hadn't lost faith in docs helping me with my mysterious symptoms...I'm sure one of them would have eventually bestowed the "Lupus" label upon me.
Strangely enough I agree with Doctor House on one thing: "It's never lupus!"
My working theory is that lupus is vA overload... and/or possibly other kinds of toxic overloads.
My rosacea was in the shape of the so-called "lupus butterfly". And wallah, no more lupus butterfly... after several years lowered-vA.
However, this canker is killing me LOL, would love to hear any advice.

Quote from lil chick on October 8, 2025, 10:26 amDon't know if it is related, but I've recently been slowly adding more soluble fiber to my diet.

Quote from Joseph on October 8, 2025, 3:52 pmYou already know the answer to your question! 😀
In my first search hit, the cause is "elusive" but 3/5 of the common underlying conditions listed are autoimmune, namely IBD, Behcet's and Celiac. The other 2 were hormonal changes during menstruation (paging Karen Hurd) and a certain species of bacteria (this latter is obviously just a firefighter showing up to the smoke alarm).
Not surprisingly, steroids are the go-to treatment if the canker sores get bad enough. And stress is often a trigger. They are also a knownsideeffect of accutane use. Check out this doozy off of reddit:I’ve dealt with Cankers my entire life… I usually get them once every 1-2 months or anytime I bite or injure the inside of my lips/cheeks/tongue. I started Accutane about 4 months ago. It insanely dehydrates your body… but I didn’t have any issues with cankers on my treatment until about a week ago. Over the past week or so I’ve gotten them all over the inside of my mouth. Under my upper lip, inside my lower lip, under my tongue on the floor of my mouth, on my tongue, on the roof of my mouth… I’ve never had them this bad. I’ve done all the usual things that usually help me (the mouth sore mouth wash is a life saver for me when it’s just 1 or 2 like usual) but I can’t eat, drink, talk or even smile without pain. I went into my dermatologist today for a checkup and told him I’m stopping the Accutane because this is something I can’t suffer through. He prescribed me oral prednisone, prednisone mouth wash & valtrex and said I should have relief by morning
Adding more soluble fiber is likely a clarion call to your liver to commence dumping. I know it was for me (but only when I quit drinking half a case of beer a night).
What you wrote about the pesticides in bedding and planes (heck likely all public transit, including Ubers) when traveling was a comfort to me as I am forever allergic to traveling. Every bird likes its own nest best!

Quote from Hermes on October 9, 2025, 12:37 pmI do best with chicken, for some reason, I don't tolerate beef well. It might be iron, it might be related to my microbiome. Not sure why, but I eat chicken for now. Chicken broth is also great as a base for many soups.

Quote from Ginny on October 10, 2025, 10:11 amI use to get canker sores. But it had to do with foods high in Salicylates.
also check out foods high in lysine and low in arginine. If you eat foods higher in Arginine it will throw your lysine out of balance and cause canker sores.

I agree with you on the benefits of L-Lysine. After taking it for six weeks, the plantar warts on the soles of my feet disappeared.
