Carotenoids don't benefit canary health

But still it is interesting.
Are we (Generoozers) those white canaries?
I have two cats, which I've been inadvertently been over-feeding VA for many years.
The orange one isn't toxic.
The gray one is.

@tim-2 interesting study. Maybe people like me who are very bad converters of carotenoids into vA are like yellow canaries! Interesting that they supplemented white canaries with vitamin A to keep them alive - wonder what do they do in the wild - or maybe it’s just a lab bird.

Quote from tim on December 5, 2019, 3:49 pm@jaj yeah I think so too. It would seem the scientists involved in this study see the idea of carotenoids as antioxidants as a theory rather than a fact. Every carotenoid study i've heard about seems to show carotenoids as unbeneficial or harmful lol. Yeah those yellow canaries are more advanced than us they use the carotenoids to make themselves handsome!

Looks like the canaries got the same diet but the white canaries dont absorb the carotenoids.

They gave the canaries retinol based on this study. I can't read the study but the abstract indicates they were just concerned with retinol levels not actual deficiency effects.
