Cold - Sebaceous glands - Horripilation

There is a link between vA excretion through the skin and horripilation. The goose pimples must be pumping sebum out.

This happens when we feel cold, hence the benefits of Bain dérivatif and cryotherapy, but not only.

This horripilation also is a sign of a time in CNS activity. It is a good marker of WHEN, in the cycle  of sympathetic/ parasympathetic / vagal activity is the time for vA excretion, If we can fix the CNS cycle the vA would regularly be expelled and not stored in excessive amounts.

Maybe it is the other way : too much vA and we dysregulate the CNS rotation. Or both at the same time, in a vicious circle.

Something strange happened today. We went for a long walk in the cold. At no point did we feel cold or did we shiver. BUT after coming home in the warmth, we felt for hours the burn of retinoic acid in our bodies. A burn I know well now. When younger I thought I was cold. Now I know that this is a chemical burn. Today on the internal median part of both knees it was burning as though I had been rubbed with acid. No redness though, and it took 5 hours to subside.

No shivers or horripilation, but it seems the body is responding to the lower temperature too. @lil-chick and @jaj what do you think?

Do you regularly go for long walks and this burning didn't happen before or was this not a regular routine?  In my opinion, if it subsided and you feel fine now then the  extra physical activity burned off more toxins.  ???

This happened also yesterday, less so. The weather has been very cold. We often go for long walks and this normally does not happen. Which makes me think it is specific to the cold. Also I was not tired at all, it was flat easy ground. Only the length of time we spent in the cold was new.

That’s interesting Ourania. I know that cold makes body processes such as enzymes slow down. Maybe there is a rebound speeding up? I wonder if cold then warmth causes a bile dump?

I know that getting cold while on the vA detox affects me much worse than it used to. I struggle to warm up and feel exhausted.

Interesting thoughts @ourania!  Sorry I didn't answer right away, I was having a little trouble logging in, which Grant helped, me with, thanks Grant!

I definitely believe something is up with cold and VA toxicity.  Maybe multiple things.   Half of my people have moved to Florida, LOL.

I remember in my wapf times reading, or being told by someone, that that cold depletes your VA.   Shall we translate that to mean cold makes you detox VA?

My hands and lips crack in cold and dry air.  I suppose that the body might be trying to move oils to the surface to protect itself.  And our oils are infiltrated with VA...  I suppose your burning could be that simple.

I also think that the VA-toxic adrenal system is taxed, and that the adrenal helps us deal with temperature change.  So we probably aren't dealing with the stress of temperature change as well as we could be.   Once chilled, I often need to go to great extents to get my bones warmed back up.  Like a warm shower or a hot water bottle.

Circulation might also be impaired which means that the surface itself might be getting too cold and frostbite might be more apt to happen.

When I'm going to be out for long periods of time I wear ski pants.  I see other people of a certain age wearing them around town too.  They make me feel like I don't need to move to Florida.

YET.

I live in Alaska and spend a ton of time outdoors in the winter when it routinely gets down to -30 F.  One of the reasons I love Alaska is that I tolerate the cold much better than the heat.  This past winter, the first while on a low vA diet, I did not notice much of a difference in response to being in the cold than other winters.

Cold (like heat) is a stressor though, and as a stressor it acts as a hormetic by increasing glutathione in the body, which can then be used in detoxification pathways.  This is a beneficial process as long as your body can handle the stress, but if you're already stretched to your limits then it's probably just going to worsen your condition.  Exercise is also a hormetic stressor, and there was a time not long before I went low vA that I had to minimize exercise and temperature stress because my HPA axis was overworked and I was too exhausted to deal with additional stressors (it was primarily a combination of oxalates and vA that was bogging me down, and has since improved dramatically).
