Consensus on Vitamin D supplementation on a low VA Diet

Thoughts/experiences?

I was very low vitamin D. I took supplements. I was still vitamin A toxic.

I suspect low vitamin D is often a marker for something else being wrong - like vA toxicity. Adding in a vitamin D supplement doesn’t change that. It just makes your blood work look better. That’s the conclusion I’ve come to. It probably just adds another burden to an already overwhelmed liver. Many describe it as a hormone not a vitamin which makes me very wary of supplementation.

I too am wary of vitamin D supplementation.  Because I have a lifetime of sun sensitivity I decided to buy a vitamin D lamp.
Using this regularly has increased my vit D levels, at least it has my storage form which is the only form I am able to measure.
This gives me peace of mind that I am giving my body sufficient exposure to make vit D, whilst leaving it in control.
I rather suspect my body has a better idea of what it needs than I do, I'm just giving it the opportunity to make vit D, something I am not able to do via sun exposure.

With D25 you should check for active mathobilite - D1.25 and if it is already high avoid supplementation since it will lead to hypercalcemia. Also if your bones are already weak(elevated D1.25) vit D will accelerate the process of bone loss.

Also body could theoretically boost the production of D1.25 to overcome the resistance of vit A on the receptors they are both compete for. If this is the case, with A normalization calcitriol should go down to normal values too..
