Corned Beef

Page 1 of 2Next

Do you think it is safe?

I looked up some recipes and some of the spices called for seem questionable. I have eaten Hormel brand Corned Beef hash once since going low A and didn't notice anything negative from it. I just emailed Hormel since I have a can of it in my cabinet to see if I can find out more information. It tastes pretty decent and I will definitely eat it if it's low A. Not as a staple but occasionally as a quick convenient meal would be great.

Thanks Guest,

I guess it's not easy to tell from a single consumption.. Since trying low A, I ate quite a lot of corned beef, and as it is canned one can only wonder what they put in it and if it is really zero A. maybe I should make a break from it and stick to preparing beef myself, only using it occasionally as you say.

They replied to me yesterday wanting the lot # in order to answer my question. I told them I was on a low A diet for medical reasons and I haven’t heard back yet. I’m just wondering what they use as spices!

Checked most of the vitamin A content lists and websites I have saved, and all show as zero vitamin A for canned corned beef.

Thanks Orion. Hormel just replied with some ridiculous answer about not using any gluten containing ingredients! They completely ignored my vitamin A question!

Above is for canned corned beef hash.

As with every processed meat, we can't be sure what parts of animal / ingredients & additives besides meat they put in it. Here in Europe happened once a scandal where processed horse meat was sold as beef.

The taste for me is neither too bad neither that good, but I don't always have time/will to cook, so it was convenient ..

Isn’t that the truth! I just want to have some things on hand for emergencies and such. It’s great apocalypse food. 🙂
