Dark side of Polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs)

PreviousPage 2 of 2

@daniil I don't think your mental issues have anything to do with low PUFA. During my bodybuidling days I was on rice, oats, whey, meat,  veggies, fruit diet for like 10 years.. I would look more into elements like heavy metals, iron, copper.. Bud hard to tell without any testing..

@jiri Hmm, there are omega-6 in oats, but it looks like your diet didn't contain omega-3... And you didn't have any symptoms of omega-3 deficiency at that time, "mental problems"?

@daniil I was strict, but not like Grant. That is another level of discipline.. So here and there I had some whole eggs, some fish etc.. But my overal PUFA intake was very low for many years for sure.. I did great. I should stay on that diet forever. No I had to start with low carb, Ray Peat, Morley Robbins etc.. High fat, high cholesterol, high vit A, high copper.. Disaster...

If anyone is interested, I've discovered something. It turns out that obtaining Omega 3 in Russian prisons is a challenge. They provide fish, but it's mostly lean (as it's cheaper). However, I haven't heard of any widespread cases of Omega 3 deficiency among Russian prisoners. Therefore, it's likely that there is no actual Omega 3 deficiency, and I may be overthinking it.

By the way, it's a pity that Ray Peat's forum has been closed. I used to be there. It would be very helpful for me to discuss omega 3 with people from that forum.

Wonder how that plays into other aspects of medicine.

Hmm, on Ray Peat's forum, I heard that PUFA's from even low-PUFA diet sources, such as butter, would be enough to prevent PUFA deficiency. In other words, PUFA deficiency can only be reproduced in a laboratory. However, the neural network disagrees with this claim. I wonder if anyone here has any evidence to support this?

@daniil yeah people should worry about PUFA excess not about PUFA deficiency. But I wouldn't make a big deal out of it. Simply avoiding processed foods with seed oils or taking fish oils etc.. But I don't think it is crazy issue to eat some fatty fish rich in omega 3 or some nuts, seeds etc.. It is natural for us to eat them. There are much more problematic substances in our diets.. I think Ray Peat was focusing on wrong stuff.. Why he was not talking about heavy metals etc.. They are much more harmful than some PUFA from handful of nuts..
