Dehydration

I am just a couple weeks into VAD and have been experiencing extreme dehydration. Dry skin has dramatically increased, but even more concerning are my hands. The finger tips are hardening and the skin on the palm and fingers peeling. I do feel thirst at times, but have to urinate frequently so I am not drinking much.

Overall, abdominal pain is lessening and the puffiness around my eyes too.

Frequent urination can be a sign of detox.  I think you should drink when thirsty.  I also have signs of worsening skin on the diet but think it will get better in a few months.

How is your electrolyte intake?   Are you getting enough sodium, potassium and magnesium, meeting RDA's.

Chonometer.com is a good free site to track cals and daily RDA intakes.

I think you need a good intake of sodium to retain water.

I have had some skin hardening on my hands, but I attributed it to my skin rebuilding and it was gone in a few days. Yesterday, I peed a lot and I was more thirsty and I'm thinking my body was trying to flush something out.

Increased urination might be a sign that your body is getting rid of fluid that was retained as a protective measure (water retention).

What does your diet look like?

I am eating white rice, oatmeal, honey, raisins, lean beef or chicken, black beans, mushrooms, and olive oil. Also, coffee, salt, and garlic powder.
