Diabetes and VA liver concentrations
Quote from Neilky on December 5, 2019, 4:42 amI found this article https://academic.oup.com/ajcn/article/69/6/1071/4714859 which had the following graph showing VA liver concentrations in people with liver damage.
I noticed the x marking Diabetes cases on it but the article didn't delve into that aspect. So from my reading of it diabetes cases in Autopsy were shown to be in the upper quartile of liver VA concentrations.
The graph had been taken from this publication and it can't be accessed without subscription, I'd be curious to see what the original study said about this.
Has anyone come across similar article referencing diabetes and VA levels? I find this interesting as my fasting blood glucose increased on Keto (with high VA consumption), indicating liver insulin resistance.

Quote from Jenny on December 5, 2019, 1:07 pmI think that there is a link to RBP levels (so retinol levels) & I think there is a paper on Garrett Smith’s blog-forum about this.
I’ve been monitoring my blood sugar for a while now as I’m nudging into the prediabetic range & my levels went up when I was supplementing 5000iu of retinyl palmitate a day. I think there is a relationship to vA toxicity. I don’t know the mechanism though.
P.S. interesting paper - thanks
