@salt I am not saying that he can safely eat crazy amounts of all kinds of lower vit A foods which will give him a lot of vit A at the end of the day.. I am saying there is no reason to eat just rice and beans for grains and legumes. There is no reason to eat just beef for meat etc.. Btw eating years and years the same foods like that can give you nice issues once you try add new foods. Anyways you really think that if he has like under 1000iu of vit A a day from all low vit A sources. You will not continue detoxing? The goal here is what? Eat rice, beans and beef for the rest of your life or keeping in mind that it is not a good idea eat liver, sweet potatoes, drink carrot juice or eat 10 whole eggs a day for breakfast and just eat "normal and healthy" diet..? You really want 5-10 years latter worry if lentils have some type of carotene or something like that?? That is not life...

I disagree. OP isn't asking about advice about how to expand his diet, in fact he's kind of asking about if he should restrict his already limited diet even further. So he doesn't seem to have trouble eating in this restricted fashion. But everyone is different. For some people, eating a restricted diet is very uncomfortable. For other people eating even small amounts of VA is very uncomfortable. Grant seems to be doing very well on his rice beef beans diet.

Also lentils don't have some carotenes, they have a ton of carotenes.

@salt tons of carotenes? Nutritiondata says 100g of lentils have 39 iu of vit A that will be hardly even absorbed if you don't eat fats with it.. SO what you talking about? If lentils are problem due to vit A, than you can basically eat white rice and egg whites. Because everything else has some vit A.

I already posted the links in this thread. Lentils have like 1000 mcg lutein per 100 g.

Anyways even if you want to be super ultra strict there are plenty of foods that are available, way more than just rice and egg whites.

@ourania, I find this diet really delicious..In fact, I was eating yesterday and I told me wife how delicious the food was, I was eating rice, beans, potatoes ( which I forgot to mention on  my list, I eat them almost everyday) , onions , beef and a lentil and mustard sauce I bought.I think my appetite has increased and also I enjoy eating food more now than I used to.

I really want to stick with this diet as long as I am feeling healthy and happy. Like I told you guys, the progress I made in the past year has been a big deal for me as I am sure I am on the right path. I hardly ever eat chicken and some other food that are higher in VA.

I noticed that when I eat food that are higher in VA , my hand becomes itchy, my eyes tend to become drier and I feel tired and also become more irritable, it impacts my digestion big time as well. So, I might stick with this diet that I was eating and try adding lentils. I know it might take longer to have 100%health but I am ok , I spent 8 years searching for the solution and I found it, I am patient and will stick with it.

I live in Brazil and I was thinking to make a video or an article about Grant's work

@sergio be careful with iron if you eat a lot of beef... It is a good idea to do blood test for ferritin. I would also love to see ceruloplasmi number from someone who is on really low vit A diet for a long time. People from Morley Robbins or Ray Peat pound vit A as they believe it is essential for ceruloplasmin production..
