do we really need vitamin K2

Page 1 of 5Next

from what I read online , K2 is primarily produced in intestine . @jiri suggested to supplement it , though I might be wrong , but k1 is only what we require ?

@jiri your thought ?

@r-2  I think it is like with every nutrient that is from plant and can be converted in us to animal form. But today people are so unhealthy. Especially our intestine that conversion like this doesn't happen most likely.. I think most people are deficient in vit E,K2,D3 and toxic in A. They need to be in balance. Natural sources of vit A are also good sources of K2. So I think it is possible that taking jsut vit A supplements, accutane, retinol creams etc. will deplete K2..

whats your typical diet as of now ? are you still eating lentils or beans / brown rice

lentils make my bowel movement worse , whats your stance on eating fiber ? I read bit online that fiber inhibits mineral absorption

Yes fiber makes micronutrient absorption worse for sure. Like I said I was eating a lot of potatoes lately and I learned that I can't eat them. My joints, spine everything hurts. That means I have crazy leaky gut. So everything that is not easily digested goes to my bloodstream. So now I am eating just white rice, meats, olive oil, gelatin, some bananas, cucumbers, for now millet is ok. So I eat 100g of millet. THere is som copper and other minerals and I started drinking some orange juice. I think the vit C and potassium with some sugars is good for my adrenals. So I drink like 300-500ml a day. It has some beta carotene but not much.. This is really low fiber so I am trying 1 tsp of psyllium husk in the morning before breakfast when I drink a lot of warm water with some salt.. That is my diet for like 10 days now and I feel ok. From supplements just B complex, some vit D3 I have like 10 capsules left and after that just sun and also some vit K complex. Also have some vit E complex I take like one every 5 days.. + trying again some milk thistle because I had elevated liver enzymes a lot..

yeah , even I feel terrible on potatoes , they are very high in toxins , even if I buy the organic ones . I had breathlessness on potatoes , havent had them since past 3 months

btw I would like ask you one more question . I know this sounds so stupid , but reading http://b6toxicity.blogspot.com/ this has got me scared . I recently took a 50 Mg dose of all B complex for 3 days , I dont have any symptoms , but what worries me is that maybe it all might have been stored and down the line from eating food my B6 reverses would get saturated 😀

but one thing that I am happy about , which you can obsolvly comment on better than me . The supplement had the pyridoxine hydrochloride version of B6 , not pyridoxal 5'-phosphate , may be I am safe ??

@r-2 I think that taking 50mg of B6 for 3 days will not make you B6 toxic. You need much bigger doses for this.. I was taking B complex with 20-50mg of all B vits for years daily. Maybe 15 years.. Now I take B complex where is like 10mg.. But the best B complex is I think without B6. Like 200% of RDA for just B1,B2,B5,biotin, choline, inositol, folate and B12..

I agree with @jiri @r-2, you would need probably 100mg/day B6 for at least a month to enter in bad territory from what I have read over the years.

When I use Bcomplex, i just break the tablet or pour out the capsule powder, so I am taking a B10-complex

Thank you guys !

@jiri @orion

what type of oil should we use ? coconut or olive on a vitamin A detox diet , or even in general

ray peat advocates coconut oil http://raypeat.com/articles/articles/coconut-oil.shtml ,

but grant mentioned in his book not to use it due to some adverse reaction it causes in detox pathways

@r-2 coconut oil doesn't stimulate bile flow that much. But olive oil does. That's why I use it. Macadamia nut oil is also great, but expensive..

@jiri

I wanted your advice on something

For a long period of time ( 3-4 months ) I was on a very restrictive diet consisting of only white rice , beef and chicken , egg whites .
Which for sure was deficient in many nutrients . Some of the deficiencies were immediately resolved with a B complex and low fat yogurt ( for calcium ) with calcium citrate .

I recently started including a home made granola in morning with yoghurt to cover other deficiencies. If I consume granola with yoghurt symptoms disappear within 2-3 days completely . I see recovery , but as soon as I stop it , the symptoms come back gradually within days  . I am bit confused about which minerals  I will be missing without the granola .

My base diet without granola consists of

Brownrice
Lentils
Beef
eggs
yoghurt
bananas

my symptoms are

Muscle pain in legs and arms
joint pain fingers , hand bones and toes
fatigue

my granola consists of

Rolled oats ( 100 g )
cashews  ( 20 g)
peanuts ( 15 g )
raisins ( 15 g)
yoghurt ( 200 g)

I dont mind adding granola to my diet , but it consists of nuts ( which are not good for health according to ray peat ) and oats which I am allergic to due to anti nutrients.

which minerals do suspect I am deficient in which granola is providing me and making me feel better . I might try to supplement those or do you feel granola is a good option to add to my food list

Thank you 🙏
