do we really need vitamin K2

PreviousPage 2 of 5Next

@r-2 I don't see anything wrong with this granola. Your symptoms are interesting and I don't see any connection there, Why would this muscle and joint pain stop after eating this granola.. What I know is that it is all tricky, because for example joint pain in this case can be from "oxalate dumps" and when you eat things like oats, cashews, peanuts that are really high in oxalates this dump will stop. So it will give you relieve short term, but long term it can make you more oxalate toxic. I don't know if this is the case, but it is a possibility for sure.. This granola is also high in copper. Some people need more copper, but most people have already too much copper in the liver and the problem with this is that copper will stimulate the body/adrenals all the time and over time this can end with chronic/adrenal fatigue. This is hard to fix, because people with this issue crave more and more copper. Because it will stimulate the body. So it feels good for short time period, but in long term it makes things worse and worse.. Classic example are woman who eat chocolate, nuts etc.. all the time.. Woman have this issue more than man, because estrogen will retain copper in the body(make you copper toxic).. I had/have this issue because I was taking testosterone and other steroids without anti estrogens so I had high estrogen for a long time.. I was craving chocolate, cashews and other high copper foods 24/7..

yeah even I doubt its copper or oxalates . but when I do the comparison on cronometer , it show manganese as suspect

for the diet ( chicken , beef , and eggs whites ) and rolled oats , peanuts and cashews

It makes sense to avoid a high oxalate diet and to avoid supplemental Vit C but it isn't worth worrying about oxalates past that. Oxalate problems that occur with normal amounts in the diet are due to existing health problems, they aren't the cause.

Vit K2 is found in meat and animal fat and that complements K1 in cabbage on a low VA diet. A low VA diet containing these foods will boost K2 levels more than consuming higher K2 foods that also contain VA. K2 supplementation is probably a good idea for the first year on a low VA diet.

Copper and iron issues have a lot to do with riboflavin deficiency. When we are riboflavin deficient it messes with the bodies copper and iron regulation systems as riboflavin is needed to mobilize liver copper and iron stores. The diet that I recommend is not that high in copper though and iron is easily dealt with via blood donations. My iron levels were low after a year on the low VA diet, I need more tests and time to confirm this effect but I suspect that high VA is connected to higher iron, this is possibly to do with replenishment of other nutrients like riboflavin when VA isn't depleting them.

@r-2 show me your macronutrients on cronometer. How many calories are you eating? Are you eating at least 2500kcal?

something like 2000 - 2500 cal a day

@r-2 Ah I see where is your problem. 130g of carbs is really low. Protein is ok, fat can be lower, but 100g is ok, but carb are really low. I wouldn't go under 250g of carbs and if you are more active you need more. 2000/2500kcal is really the minimum. Ideally you should eat 3000/3500kcal and teach the body that there is enough calories so there is no need to store any of them.. The goal should be to have high metabolism, eat a lot of good calories and be lean. Not be lean by eating low calorie diet. Eat more white rice, bananas and other fruit that is available on Bali.. That will also solve your low potassium intake. When you will eat more carbs from grains, legumes, fruit..

So I tried replicate what was. present in that cereal inorder to point out which meneral or vitamin I am lacking in which is making me feel good immediately  after taking it
I take this cereal , around 100 Gm of it

https://www.sanitarium.co.nz/products/cereals/light-n-tasty/golden-almond-crunch-with-coconut

It says it has added folate , b1, and b2 . I took all of them separately , but it didn't actually make it better . tried folate 400gm , 50 mg b1 , and I dont think I was deficient in b2 ( I have been taking egg whites daily for years ) , but still tried a small 2 mg B complex .

I tried supplementing with calcium citrate , also I took yoghurt and low fat milk . Again no difference

I was so frustrated with muscle pain and fatigue I was getting , so I brought the cereal again , ate it and very next morning felt 80% better .  So again I was intrigued to know what exactly was I missing , it must be something that is quite high in this cereal

looking at the ingredients

Cereals (65%) [wholegrains (51%) (wheat, oats, whole wheat flour), corn, wheat bran, rice], sugar, almonds (8%), corn maltodextrin, coconut (2.5%), golden syrup, vegetable oil, minerals (calcium, iron), salt, maize starch, barley malt extract, flavour, spices, vitamins (niacin, thiamin, riboflavin, folate, E).

(wheat, oats, whole wheat flour), corn, wheat bran, rice] ...
adds up a lot of magnesium , which I was getting only 40 % on my beef, chicken , rice and eggs diet
manganese is there too , but I think brown rice and even white rice has enough of it

So I think I will give magnesium a try , could you please suggest a good magnesium form ? and do you take magnesium daily .
magnesium sulfate or magnesium citrate ??

I believe my magnesium got depleted after I started MMA training  , MMA camps are brutal I was performing very high intensity workouts for straight 2.5 hrs,  5 days a week.

@r-2 the only problem I see with the ingredients is that added iron. They use basically something like what is left when you drill the hole to iron.. It can really damage your gut... Yes you can have low electrolytes if you train and sweat a lot. I would buy some good electrolyte powder add to is some extra sodium with sea salt + some form of sugar like dextrose, maltodextrin or just normal sugar and drink a lot of it especially when you have training before, during and after. Btw if you train like this and eat only 2000/2500kcal with 150g of sugar or something. You will crush with some chronic fatigue sooner or later. You need to eat 50-100% more calories. Especially from carbs. On Bali there must be good quality fruit. I would eat a lot of fruit (salted) to balance high potassium with sodium.. Would not worry about some plant vit A from fruit. IT will not hurt you.. I can't take magnesium. It lowers my blood pressure too much and it also makes me dehydrated... But good form of magnesium is magnesium chloride. You mix it with water and use it in spray like magnesium oil... Magnesium absorption transdermally is much more effective.. Btw try buckwheat. It is loaded with magnesium...

So , I have been trying hard to figure out issue . As it seems like a deficiency of some sort ( should be as I was on white rice ( unenriched ) and beef and egg white diet for months ) . I tried to figure out the exact deficiency by consuming individual supplements . So far I tried , individually

1 : Folate ( mythly folate )
2 : Thaimine

3 : Magnesium Citrate
4 : Calcium
5 : Copper ( I thought It might be A Zinc overdose due to my past use of zinc supplements and huge consumption of red meat )

but un fortunately none of these things made any difference .

What I figured-out is if I consume even a small amount of chicken or beef the night before , I start having joint and body pain and fatigue the next day . It's been very frustrating as I cant think of anything in my knowledge  right now .

my symptoms are
joint pain (Peripheral neuropathy) localized pain in toes, hands and shoulders and fatigue. I have never had any issues like this before . So I am sure it either toxicity of somekind or deficiency

cc@jiri @tim-2

Any suggestions you guys have ??

thanks 🙏
