Documenting my experience

PreviousPage 13 of 13

@are Well, Paul Jaminet (who concluded 10-20% protein for adults) was basing much of his conclusion on dietary science that is most likely providing a conservative estimate of optimal protein consumption.  If you increased protein intake to, say 25%, then the example I gave above would put you at 0.18% of body weight, the same as the infant example.  So, I don't think babies are really eating much more protein per unit body weight than an active adult, but they might be eating more than a sedentary couch potato watching Netflix all day!

@michele

I have little hope that you will get to read this, but I will try because I'm desperate.

I'm dealing with severe MGD induced by Accutane, and I read the whole topic. Reading about your experiences on this subject gave me hope that someday I may find relief from my eye dryness.

If you read this, please, I desperately need to contact you.

And if anybody knows how I can contact you, I will be eternally grateful.

@carlos-2 I suffer from exactly the same, due to Accutane. Michele gave me her email, but maybe she took it away. You can either ask Grant, or if not, then you can give me your email and I can send it to you.

btw, after 3 years on a low VA diet, my eyes are much, much better. So, there is hope for us!

Hi @sand

Thank you so much for your answer and for giving me hope.

Here is my email: litospoker@gmail.com

I would like to talk with you about MGD (I have done some deep research) and, if possible, with @michele too.

Please contact me at that address.

@carlos-2 just read your other thread, we have similar stories! I’ll email you in a couple of days when I get back home, on holiday now.

@carlos-2 if you have time and willing, please share your research, always interested in new theories.

Hello @orion

I have a lot of information. I can't share everything here because it's too much, but this is a brief summary of my point of view on dealing with this dysfunction.

MGD is a progressive disease, which means you're racing against the clock.

Attacking the root cause of this is unclear, as you don't know how long a diet can last until you see some results with your own eyes.

In order to do this, while you target the root cause with personal precision, you have to keep your meibomian glands alive.

To achieve this, the most successful procedure is probing + IPL: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31660904/

This year, a new treatment will be available, which is AZR-MD-001 by Azura (or Seleniex in Canada). This is a treatment for the meibomian glands, which helps with lipid secretion and flow. The people who were able to participate in the trial have experienced significant improvements. I'm in contact with one of them, whose TBUT increased from 5 to 18 seconds.

Hi @carlos-2 , do you consume foods with lutein in it? Lutein seems to be the most important trigger of dry eyes syndrome in my case. Without lutein and on low vit A I don't experience mush those symptoms.

Yes, @grapes I was consuming a lot of lutein and Vit A.

Now I'm on low A, avoiding lutein (to test if this is a trigger for me).

I'm eating lots of healthy fats and essential oils.

It's early to know but I'm feeling a bit improvement on my eyes and less dryness on my skin.
