Dr. Thomas E. Levy videos on Vitamin C
Quote from hillcountry on August 12, 2019, 7:37 amI think these should prove useful on the detox angle. The first video from 2016 is very different than the second one from 2018. Watch both if you have the time, but certainly the first one. His descriptions are ringing a lot of bells, as regards retinoic acid's involvement in oxidative stress, like the recent PubMed paper on how RA can be used in chemo to weaken cells in order to prepare the way for a chemo drug to deliver the final blow. His experience is extensive and the fact that he worked with and learned from Hal Huggins, DDS is a big plus imo. The dental and root-canal side of the equation is significant, with or without retinoid toxicity, and may be complicating things for people trying to detox from retinoids. I've been reading Hal's work off and on since 20 years ago, when I had my mercury amalgams removed and replaced with biocompatible materials. I ran across Dr. Levy a couple of years ago. Hope you find something that helps you out in his interview and lecture. His protocols may dovetail quite well with what we're trying to accomplish and they're fairly easy to do. I added Liposomal C awhile back to my daily intake of regular C after watching a few of his videos again. Now it's time to up the doses and see what happens.
Edit - if only one, watch the lecture.

Quote from hillcountry on August 16, 2019, 12:53 pmHere's a great podcast with Dr. Stuart Nunnally in Marble Falls, TX. They discuss the impact of cavitations on health. This is my favorite dental clinic and I still have a bit of work to do there. They use intravenous Vitamin C when they're cleaning out infected bone from previous tooth extractions and root canals. It's extremely common for dentists to do a sloppy job and leave the periodontal ligament behind and not clean/abrade the jaw bone properly. That sets you up for a constant battle against pathogenic bacteria leaching toxins down through your lymph system. You'll really like this guy. He's the real deal.

John, I've been taking liposomal /C capsules, but I saw that Dr. Smith says we should avoid phosphadityl choline and it is listed as an ingredient on the bottle. Do you know why he doesn't like it?

Quote from hillcountry on August 16, 2019, 6:52 pmHi Judy - no, I don't follow his recommendations and haven't read his thoughts on PC. My 94 year old mother-in-law is doing great with pure PC caps from BodyBio. Dreaming again, more conversational, better recall. I read somewhere that 40% of the membranes of brain cells are composed of PC. That's good enough for me. Liposomal technology is pretty useful as far as I can tell. Dr. Suzanne Humphries has quite a bit of positive to say about it as a Vitamin C delivery system. In fact, I just finished watching one of her videos and came over here to post a link to it when I saw your post. I'm getting a strong vibe that Vitamin C is directly related to detoxing retinoic acid after searching PubMed looking for its effect on cancer, autoimmune, and other chronic illnesses. It's the dosage and frequency information that might get those struggling with zero/low A to the next level. I'll put a link in the next post. Cheers!

That was a great lecture. Very well presented and hugely informative.
I took Accutane and some of the first blood results I got back, besides low T and b12 was elevated Bilirubin.
I was unaware of the dependancy collagen has for Vit C. Eye floaters have been a persistent symptom after Accutane, I wonder if they will start to fade as I now start a high dose of vit c.
Given the drop in bio availability the higher the dose of oral, how much are you taking John?

Quote from Jenny on August 17, 2019, 8:14 amJudy - I would be wary of PC. It is one of a number of substances that Dr Smith has evidence for favouring VA storage rather than allowing it to detox out of the body (I think papers on his blog-forum). So on a low VA diet - VA comes out into blood stream & you want it out of the body. If you take PC (and there are others) the body is encouraged to put it back into storage - making the detox less successful.
My personal experience of this is not with PC but with phosphatidyl serine. I took it for anxiety & it really worked. Dr Smith advised me not to take it (I’m one of his clients) but as it worked so well for me I ignored him! Then I read the science and realised that it could well be working well for me by reducing VA in the blood by putting it back into storage. Whoops. I’ve now stopped taking PS & everything seems to be progressing much better.
I would hate to see you mess up your detox Judy. I’m a big believer in vitamin C but I’d stick to plain old ascorbic acid. I’d err on the side of caution. Best wishes Jenny.

Hi Keero - Yes, she's the real deal for sure. I like style quite a bit. Imagine giving up a lucrative career to do the right thing. How many like her are out there? Hopefully a lot more as time goes on. I sent her Grant's P4P link and I hope she gets to his kidney disease stuff, wherever that's located (can't recall which book it was or maybe a blog post?) I recommended Chapter 5 - The Botched Deficiency Experiments. If that doesn't knock-yer-socks off, probably nothing else will. Every time I read it I just shake my head at the history and further appreciate Grant's critical-thinking skills.
I've been taking a few grams a day for many years now and somewhat consistently since the early 70's when I read Linus Pauling. Now that I'm focused on Vitamin C in the context of retinoid toxicity, looking back on things in my life, it may have been the habit that kept me vertical during times when I was eating all the wrong things, even though I still took a body-hit, due to lack of information on dosage, timing, consistency and such. I've taken higher doses intermittently, but now I'm going to stick with at least 10 grams a day powder, spread out as 2 gram doses and 2 tablespoons of liposomal a day. I've got a local provider of IV C so I might do that once a month as well. My bowel tolerance is 15 - 20 grams at present, so I might push it close to that. The guy who runs the Riordan Clinic in Kansas (there's a good interview he has with Dr. Levy on YouTube) has done that amount for a long time, and I think Dr. Levy does as well. Since neither of them appears to have run across retinoid toxicity, they may be trying to "dry-off while still in the shower", to paraphrase Dr. Klenner, and might require those higher amounts to feel as well as they do. It will be interesting to see if bowel tolerance decreases, if indeed I start a deeper cleaning of the house as it were, while maintaining a super-low A diet. I would think that it might or should lessen, with reduced incoming toxins to deal with, at least the retinoid ones. I never stuck with a high-dose regime for long in years past, so this will be a new experiment.
I can kind of understand the concerns about the Liposomal form, but if what is described as the ease-of-transport across the cell membrane is true, then what better place to confront stored retinoids than in the cell itself? If it is the case that Vitamin C donates electrons and reduces retinoic acid to whatever molecule it then becomes, (hypothetically speaking, of course), and that molecule is less toxic as a result, then it seems that one would be helping to ensure the protection of mitochondrial membranes in particular, by getting the Vitamin C into the cytoplasmic matrix more quickly and easily and in greater quantities, a place where it can do it's thing on our favorite toxin and others too. Dr. Humphries had a slide to that effect if I'm remembering it right, not that she was focused on the retinoic acid part of the equation, just toxins in general. I saw one of her more intimate talks in a dining room where she demonstrated by laying on her back and snuffing a small bit of sodium ascorbate up each nostril. She got back upright and talked for 5 minutes and then blew her nose to great effect. I wonder what Liposomal C in a Neti Pot would be like.
My sinuses have been clear as a bell for almost a year now and I attribute that to removing retinoids. I'm experimenting with skin applications and found something interesting. Vitamin C dissolves quite well in Hyaluronic Acid Serum. I managed to dissolve over 2 teaspoons of C into a little over 2 ounces of the serum. It goes on a tiny bit tacky, but then after a few minutes it's almost all absorbed and the skin feels real smooth awhile after that. It took about 24 hours for it all to dissolve. Most of it happened in the first few minutes though. I've still got some skin expressions that come and go that I think are retinoid related, so that will be an interesting test. Cheers and best of luck with Vitamin C, hope the floaters just go away for good, and whatever else you're dealing with too. I look forward to hearing your results.
