Dumping oxalates like crazy and can’t sleep??
Quote from Rosa on June 15, 2025, 11:27 pmHi! I made a post moths ago about how I can tolerate almost zero oxalate without horrible symptoms. Since then, I started supplementing with vitamin C and slowly my symtoms got much better and my oxalate tolerance increased tremendously. Now, however my problem is almost the opposite, where I feel like I’m duping oxalates so much that if I don’t eat a big dose of it in the evenings, I literally cannot sleep at all.
I’m still supplementing with C and lipothiamine, and at one point I stopped taking the thiamine in case it was causing the dumping, but it somehow made it worse. I also hesitate to stop C because it made me feel so much better.
I also take activated charcoal before breakfast, and supplement with some other B vitamins and vitamin E.
I’m doing low A, although not completely without it because going too low causes me anxiety. I just can’t figure out how to sleep well without eating a bunch of almond butter and taking diphenhydramine to calm down. I don’t think all the oxalate is good for me, but without it I get such horrible symptoms.
Anyone else dealing with this? I try to read the forum regularly, but I’m not very scientifically literate so much of it I don’t understand.

Quote from Jiří on June 16, 2025, 12:14 am@rosa keep in mind that vit C slows down key detox enzyme ALDH about 88% which is crazy.. https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC7473379/?utm_source=chatgpt.com
Dr.Smith is talking about it a lot. He recommends vit C only short term when detox is too much and you want to slow things down..
I don't know how much vit C are you taking, but vit C can also cause oxalate formation.. I was also into vit C lately, but when I look back it is causing complete shut down of bile production for me. AS soon as I take vit C( I make sodium ascorbate) around 500-1000mg dose nothing crazy I feel pressure in liver area.. I am not sure if supplementary vit C is needed. Especially when you consider how little is needed to fix severe scurvy cases they use only doses around 500mg for couple of weeks and the scurvy is fixed very fast.. Which is crazy low dose right? I would think person with severe scurvy would need intravenous crazy high doses of C for some time, but that is not the case.. Btw lemon or even better lime juice speeds up ALDH enzyme. So no wonder I feel not so great every time I try drinking lemon juice in water in the morning. It is powerful detox tool.. + it has all the vit C you need for a day. Especially if you eat some fruit or veggies as well. There is no need to supplement vit C. In fact taking too much even just 500mg three times a day so 1500mg total was shown to lower ceruloplasmin a lot. Ceruloplasmin is needed to keep copper bioavailable.. So here I am with 2kg bag of vit C, but I will not use it for sure heh..
Lokk at that paper with list of foods that speed up or slow down detox a lot. For example oats with cinnamon slows down detox a lot. No wonder my liver has hard time when I was always taking vit C and eating oats with cinnamon daily lol..

Hi! Oxalates are so weird. I really think of dairy as the answer. Hubs has had horrible kidney stones and I don't, and that is the major difference between our diets. There is some dairy that he can tolerate, such as aged cheese, but it is so hard to get him to actually ingest it, as he thinks of himself as a dairy-free person.
The fact is most Europeans would have eaten at least a little dairy. I'm older and when I was young no one was "dairy intolerant". I wonder if the popular idea to drop dairy could have caused some oxalate problems for people. Push-down here, pop-up there...
My mother started believing that she had gone milk-intolerant, and she went to a dietician. She was able to go back to dairy by utilizing an extremely slow process of adding it back, tiny spoonful by tiny spoonful over a very long period of time. My parents both test out as dairy-tolerant however (on DNA tests).
It is a shame that we have added vitamin a to some dairy products and also (I think) to cow feeds.

Quote from Rosa on June 16, 2025, 4:39 am@jiri I only take about 160mg or vitamin C spread over 2 doses because it’s included in my iron supplements.
Damn, I love oatmeal. 😭 Besides from oats, my diet mainly consists of white fish, bananas, milk, dates and nuts.
I’m going to try reading that paper, if I can make sense of it.

Quote from Jiří on June 16, 2025, 4:43 am@rosa Why not eat red meat instead of taking iron supplements? They are horrible.. White fish doesn't provide anything apart from protein. Maybe some extra mercury.. + without red meat your diet is very low in bioavailable zinc.. I would stop iron supps and eat red meat daily..

Quote from Jiří on June 16, 2025, 5:02 am@rosa I stopped eating red meat because I have the opposite issue. To much iron.. So I eat only chicken/turkey breast and here and there some sardines. I would recommend ground beef. Easy to cook and eat and is cheap.. You don't need to buy some ridiculously expensive low fat steaks. I was never fan of them. The cheapest ground beef is much better.. It also has ligaments etc. in it so it is great source of collagen as well.. Nuts are also useless in my opinion. Very hard to digest and full of antinutrients. Try some roasted buckwheat(kasha) you cook it like rice. It is packed with minerals, easy to digest, gluten free.. Your really need some extra zinc. With your diet you are not getting enough and creating zinc:copper imbalance is serious issue especially for females who already retain more copper.. I said it before I would recommend most females red meat as core of their diet.. For males probably as well. But they have to look their iron level and donate blood..
