EPA AND DHA

Carnivore meat based diet has done wonders for me ( no organs , no milk , only beef meat and chicken and egg white and one whole egg ), I think this is the baseline diet everyone should follow , and gradually add food if they are so inclined to try out for any issues they might face. Anyways I was wondering if beef , chicken , egg white  is the only source of food for somebody like me , wont I be deficient in EPA AND DHA ?

@grant your views on this

Thanks

I'm starting to wonder if large amounts of egg white is what is keeping me from having smooth lips.  I will post about it after a while, still experimenting.  Avadin in egg white is known to goof up your b-vities.  However, I've got the curse of too many eggs in my fridge.  I'm sure I was doing many more per day than you are.

Why not add fish?

I am really interested in what’s developing in the carnivore diet community. Obviously, if people on that diet don’t eat organ meat then it’s going to be a very low vitamin A diet. Probably on the order of about 10-30 IU/day (1/300th to 1/100th the RDA).

But, I was wondering why people on the carnivore diet are not reporting the detox setback trap many people here reported on the low vitamin A diet. Maybe, it’s just not being reported by the carnivore folks? But, I actually think it is probably just not happening very often. I think it is a beneficial side-effect of eliminating carbs and not consuming other foods that contain aldehydes.

With more feedback from people here, and based on the work from Garrett Smith, it is quite likely that people here are running into a B vitamin deficiency. This scenario sure fits from a temporal perspective too because people here have reported hitting the detox setback in a matter of just a few weeks or a few months. Whereas, others have sailed right through for a year or more with no such setback. On our survey, I think only two people reported eating brown rice, yet many others were including white rice. So, if someone is eating white rice, and had inadequate other sources of the B vitamins (particularly thiamine and riboflavin) they could run into a B deficiency quite quickly. There’s also some good evidence that vitamin A toxicity increases the need for the B vitamins. Also, it’s interesting that some of the B vitamin deficiency symptoms mimic those of vitamin A toxicity. But, since the B vitamins are needed to metabolize carbohydrates the carnivore diet folks won’t be as susceptible to a B vitamin deficiency.

Some good low vA food sources of the B vitamins are black beans, brown rice, macadamia nuts, sunflower seeds, and coconut water. Of course, people could supplement too.

Sorry, I don’t know much about EPA and DHA, so I have no opinion on the risk of a deficiency.

Thanks for the reply @ggenereux2014

About Vitamin B deficiency I believe I havent experienced that yet , one whole egg a day and 6 egg whites( I take it everyday ) , I think does have some B vitamins . Plus I have been drinking two young coconut  water everyday ( as I live in bali , they are pretty much everywhere here ) , The point I would like to make here is , and it might be with me only , but beans are terrible for my intestines ( I dont get detox symptoms on beans ) but even if I eat one bean of any color I immediately get ulcerative colitis . which last for at least  a month then . Last month I dropped cauliflower and potatoes and went 0 on vegetables as they were causing detox syptoms . sunflower seeds I didn't tolerate either .

@lil-chick

what type of fish shall I add ? doesn't fish have vitamin A

hmmm... I'm not an expert, I suppose you'd have to find some sort of chart telling you the levels of those nutrients you want and the VA too so you could make an informed choice.  Lobster and scallops and squid come to mind, but I don't know.

Hi @lil-chick

Here's an example diet with a pretty good B vitamin profile.

Thanks Grant!  I appreciate that!  It would probably be smart for me to hit up some high VB foods for a while, just in case egg whites set me back in that regard.  And those foods are all yummy which helps.
