Even lower VA proteins

Even beef slows my progress so lately I've been eating mostly wild game. Wild game (excluding fowl) seems to have even less VA than beef according to everything I've read, which makes sense because there is no human around to supplement VA in their food. The meat is also lower in fat so that also helps.

Has anyone experimented with things like quorn? Or seitan? These should theoretically be much closer to 0 VA than any type of meat.

I began my journey with a classical beef-rice diet. I pretty much stopped consuming red meat after 2 months as I lost the desire to consume any kind of animal foods. I now eat tofu and falafel quite regularely, with no advserse effects untill now, although I'm not sure if they are actually lower VA than regular lean meat.

Seitan sounds like a good alternative to meat and would be the best choice if you really want to go as low VA as possible.

Unfortunately it looks like both falafel and tofu have quite a lot of carotenoids. Although different websites give different amounts for the tofu, I have to look more into it
I just tried eating quorn. Texture was like really soft minced meat. Didn't really have a taste to it. Smelled pretty good though and it went down well with rice. It did make me slightly nauseous and I felt a bit strange after eating it. No VA symptoms though. I don't think I will be buying it again unless I'm desperate to get some variety.

I'm thinking maybe some kind of protein powder could be used as a zero VA protein source. But I'm not sure if they are truly 0 VA.

Thanks for the report, I'll give quorn a try too.

I recently began eating canned white beans (without tomato sauce) as a protein source.

Rice protein has a good amino acid profile and should have no vitamin A.

I tried soy mince today. It was the dried kind. Only ingredients were soy isolate and coloring derived from sugar. It smelled like dog food, or something that you would feed to a horse. But it tasted ok. However it made me feel really awful, to the point where I didn't even finish it. Inflammation with blurred vision and everything. I don't know if it's because of some hidden carotenoid content or if I'm just sensitive to something else in it but I won't be buying it again.

@who_am_i Rice protein powder sounds interesting, I might try that. I'm suspecting it will give me problems because regular cooked brown rice gives me some digestive problems. Also I wonder if there is anything left of the bran in the protein powder, it's a powerful 5a-r inhibitor so it's bad for dihydrotestosterone levels.
