[Evidence]person who ate no or very little vitamin A all his life

Page 1 of 2Next

Something  interesting anecdote recently came up and it only made this theory of vitamin A as a potential toxic or even if its required , it must be kept very very minimum . So here is a personal anecdote from a co worker of mine . He is 32 years old and whenever we all meet in our yearly team get together . He would only meat meat and some carbs like cake or sweets after dinner . After I read about vitamin A being a toxin , I got intrigued to ask him about his whole diet . First of all let me all tell you . This guy is healthy , looks so young like 19 or something though his age is 32. He is successful in life , made a shit ton of money in his life .  Always cheerful and laughing ( no sign of depression or anxiety at all , I have never seen him depressed or sad honestly ). I mean he's in a perfect health condition , lean , one could easily tell by just looking at him .

So last timeI we all met and I asked him , I was skeptical whether he eats liver or cheese or any fruits or veggies with high vitamin A. He said he has a strong dislike for like cheese , liver or any vegges or fruits , out of fruits he only eats apples sometimes ( low A) . and drinks chocolate shake . What a lucky guy to have natural dislike for these things !

Meat , fish , potatoes and pasta he eats basically and maybe some other things here and there occasionally .

He said his doctor was worried and order a blood test and surprisingly everything came out normal even vitamin D level .

Ha! Yeah, what a lucky guy. That’s awesome. Great anecdote. Thanks for sharing it. 🙂

I think if I hadn’t been so disconnected from my appetite, I would never have forced myself to eat so many “healthy” high vitamin A foods for so long... It wasn’t as though I enjoyed them.

My grandmother’s parents took Cod Liver Oil in the winter months, and she was given it as a child but HATED it so she never bought it herself after she grew up and moved away as a teenager. Both her parents passed away with Alzheimer’s Disease. My Grandmother is in her 90s and doesn’t have any serious memory issues. She eats oatmeal every morning, and doesn’t force herself to eat health foods she doesn’t like.

And oh I forgot to mention about his eyesight . He purposely keep the font of his mobile phone and screen very small ( for security purposes ) . And believe me even If I put a binoculars I wont be able to see whats on the screen , but he can and he doesn't have glasses either . SO yeah Lack of Vitamin A doesn't get you blink , instead it makes your eye eight better and sharp

Similar to what happened to me! As a child I was vitamin A poisoned, my parents were very afraid I would get sick, so I had to eat all this cod liver. They were desperate to make me drink milk or eat cheese and I just puked it up immediately. When I turned 20 I left them I went to live in a place where there was a lot of sun, and the only food was pasta, potatoes, beef or lamb not much else. Miraculously (haha! Now I know why) I got better, then much better, then I could see much better. My mind was also much better, and my mood. I was just deliriously happy, happy like only someone who knows what being poisoned and then cured feels like.

I moved around the world but was still healthy. When I was 53 both my parents died and I started again being sick, then sicker and sicker, losing my memory, going blind, accident prone, hell.

I had started eating tons of Vitamin A because I felt that my parents would want me to live and be healthy, because they were not able to live and be healthy anymore. So I started to eat all the stuff I hated and that they had tried so hard unsuccessfully to make me eat in my childhood. I was trying to make them live by being a child again.

After a while, eating a lot of Vitamin A foods, even if you don't enjoy them, becomes a necessity : if you stop you start detoxing, and even if you don't do it spectacularly, there is enough hidden vague unpleasantness that you automatically reach to what makes the detox go away, and you go on adding to your burden.

Thank you very much @r for starting this topic, it will give help and comfort to many I think.

And thank you so much @puddleduck, your observation about not really liking this food brought all this to my mind. Even though I know now that I certainly am suffering of Vitamin A poisoning, and how I had done this to myself, and I had noticed this had all started after my parents' death, you brought to me in a flash how it happened in reality. I knew how, but I did not know why. I am sure this why part will speed recovery!

Hugs to all! I feel much lighter now! 🙂

@ourania What an insightful “flash” of memory! Thank you for sharing your remarkable experience. ❤️ Lately I’ve noticed increased emotional awareness and mental clarity, which gives me an ability to make sense of my past more easily. Thiamin and soluble fibre have improved the detox for me, and this is a welcome side effect! Perhaps this “flash” is a sign of future mood and mind improvements for you. 🙂 I hope so.

@r-2 Haha how cool. Crazy how a “medical fact” could turn out to be so incorrect. 🥕👀 But then again, I guess every generation thinks they’re the one that won’t make foolish mistakes like those before them. 😝

@r-2 what an interesting anecdote. All these super healthy diets full of vegetables & super foods is turning out not to be so super for many! As a child I was a ‘problem eater’ I wouldn’t eat any vegetables at all. Meat & potatoes was staple. And cake! I did like cheese though. I was a super healthy child. My sister who was the ‘good eater’ was rather sickly. I’m sure there is much more to it than that but it does make me think.

@ourania thanks for sharing your fascinating & insightful story. I’ve said a few times that when you put on the vitamin A toxicity ‘eyeglasses’ many things suddenly become a whole lot clearer.

@puddleduck very interesting about your family. Mine were great cod liver oil takers & my Mum ended up with a rare autoimmune encephalitis. My aunt has a calcium/parathyroid problem that I don’t know much about but it’s ringing vitamin A toxicity bells for me. I now believe that vitamin A toxicity  has caused untold suffering in my family that I’d love to stop now (& to stop for everyone else too). If only my stubborn daughter would listen to me...

@r-2 Thanks for the good example of a low a diet.  I often think about the early explorers of the US who took flour, beans, and meat.  They might have eaten a few berries in season but I imagine they focused on hunting meat for protein.

@jaj I’m sorry to hear that about your mother. ☹️

In Dr. Smith’s network, there are multiple individuals who have been able to reduce their thyroid medication substantially when their labs changed after following the vitamin A detox a while (maybe you’re already aware of that, though). It’s still mind-blowing to me.

Yeah, it’s absolutely heartbreaking to think of all the suffering that could have been prevented. And it makes me feel really humble, too, and angry about the mentality of “blaming” people for their health problems... We’re all trying our best—all of us—to do right by our bodies.

And the irony is the disciplined “healthy” thin person who eats all the vegetables typically gets sicker sooner than the “unhealthy” fat person who eats according to appetite, but it seems like few people these days make it to a natural death in old age without getting one or more diseases of modern civilization. This isn’t anyone’s fault, really.

I have met a few old folks doing well and healthy pushing a hundred, they’re almost always petite and the type of person who has always been naturally lean despite (or maybe because of) eating whatever the heck they want to (which mostly means meat and potatoes with baked goods on the side 😝).

My family members haven’t jumped aboard the VA detox yet either (although they’re starting to try the soluble fibre thing, since that seems easier 😝). Hopefully your daughter will see the changes occurring in your health and be inspired eventually, eh?

Thanks @puddleduck Mum getting ill was horrendous but she was old when it happened so she had lived a long & happy life. I’m very grateful it didn’t happen earlier as it can affect any age.

You are so right about the injustice of blaming people for health problems. Vitamin A toxicity made me so much fatter & I felt it must be my fault even though I was eating healthily & exercising. How many people are unable to loose weight due to this toxicity & are being blamed?

Glad your family are interested in the soluble fibre. That alone with small modifications of diet could push things in the right direction. My daughter is super stubborn! I’m not allowing sweet potatoes or butternut squash into the house while she’s isolating back home with us. She keeps refusing my beans on brown rice mixtures though!! Wish I’d known earlier when she was a child & I could have sorted it out. I don’t want this passed to a third generation. My son does listen to me but I don’t think he’s got such a problem with vA & obviously he wouldn’t be passing it on. It’s a worry.

Alright guys ,
