[Evidence]person who ate no or very little vitamin A all his life

PreviousPage 2 of 2

@jaj Yes, probably so many people are told obesity is their fault! I feel terrible about the way diet culture shames people for their weight. For me, a 100+ pound weight gain improved most of my VA toxicity symptoms tremendously, and it was very stubborn weight that I figure my body wanted to keep to protect me. Since going low VA, my body has decided I need less weight.

It is hard to see family members struggle. ❤️ Sometimes more “high-reward” low vitamin A foods can help make the transition easier. While I dont want as many sweets anymore, I think it was helpful for me to eat them at the beginning of the detox to give variety and keep my calories up.

@r-2 Noooooooooo, not multivitamins! Send him one of those studies Dr. Smith posted about how taking vitamins A and D results in worth health outcomes. 😝

Waht are some of these foods??

@diogenes Basically whatever is considered “junk food” or “unhealthy food” (high in fat, sugar, salt, starch, or all four 😝).

So salty/starchy/fatty foods low vitamin A foods would be: white corn chips, plain potato chips, popcorn or kettle corn cooked in coconut or sunflower oil, crackers, pretzels, croutons, french fries

Sugary/fatty/starchy low vitamin A foods would be: vegan cookies, vegan muffins or cake, vegan sweet buns, vegan pancakes and maple syrup, date nut bars, apple crisp, baked granola

Gotta be careful with this though, because sugars and starches increase the need for thiamin (vitamin B1).

I find it very ironic (& sad) that the very diet people eat to improve their health can make them sicker 😞 Hopefully there won’t be enough vA in the multivitamins you ruin your friend’s health @r-2.

It sounds like your body reacted the same as mine to the vA toxicity @puddleduck by putting on some fat. I think of it as adding more storage space although in reality it’s probably much more complicated! I think my body was like ‘oh no run out of storage let’s add on some lovely adipose tissue’ a bit like having a house extension!! I just couldn’t understand it & even my husband who is a big ‘just eat less exercise more’ person said there was no way I should have been putting on weight on what I was eating/amount of walking I was doing. It all became clear when I learnt about vA toxicity. Now I can eat what I want with no weight gain & slowly I’m loosing my ‘extra storage’ as my (sensible) body has decided I no longer need it. I’m very grateful for having a body that protected me from more serious disease & for finding Dr Smith & then Grant Genereux’s ebooks in time to save me from further decline.

I've posted about my grandmother as well, and her case was somewhat like the man in the original post.

I did her shopping for many years.  First I'd put her basic foods (like those listed in the OP) on the conveyor belt at the grocer.  Then I'd put my "health" foods on the conveyor belt.  The orders were so different, I always felt like HHHMMMM.... why aren't I eating what she is eating?  She's pushing 100 years old.   Is one of us wrong?  Is it me?   And of course, my "health foods" were more expensive too!

I asked her what they ate growing up (she was born in 1914 from immigrant parents)  (she also had a few sisters who made it to 100).    I will try to find the post.

Strangely enough, she also started to take vitamins!   I wonder if it was talking to me, my mother, her doctor that got her to start.  I don't remember.    Gah....

I outline my grandmother's diet here on my log, you will have to scroll down a bit.
