I am so inspired by your progress. Would you mind sharing more about what you eat? Do you make sure to have a lot of beans/whole grains?

No beans or whole grains currently. In the first year I ate a lot more variety with quite a bit of white rice and white or black beans. When I realized oxalate was also an issue for me I opted to cut out the beans completely. I don’t believe oxalate is an issue for everyone but since I had been on levaquin for 50 days straight from a body fluid exposure at work I’m fairly certain my ability to handle dietary oxalate was severely impacted. If that wasn’t the case I’d definitely include beans and brown rice.
I’m primarily eating an animal food based diet at this time which works well for me. There are certain low A and oxalate plants I can eat without major issues but when I increased the quantity of them in my diet I noticed I started having some mild but concerning symptoms of scurvy. Fortunately 100 mg of vitamin C daily resolved those issues within a week. I’m still not sure if it was just a coincidence or due to increasing the amount of fruits and vegetables. Fruits and vegetables are supposed to be good for us and generally contain more vitamin C than meat. Meat contains the reduced form of C though which isn’t reflected in the nutrition databases.
I don’t think the way I eat is perfect (I don’t think there is a universal perfect diet) but it’s the best way I’ve found for me. I also believe our own needs can change over time.Best wishes to you!

So, do you consume a carnivore diet with occasional eggs and cheese? And I think you wrote that you have some honey as well? Is there anything else that you eat?
Thank you @bella !

You’re welcome. Yes, mainly carnivore with honey, onions, mushrooms, cucumbers, cheese and eggs. It probably sounds abysmal but I feel really good. I’m currently averaging about 10% of the RDI according to cronometer for VA. I’m trying to stay below this amount and will retest again in about 6 months before deciding on making any further changes.
During the covid peak while working in the hospital it was more like 25-50% and I believe that’s why my level crept back up a bit. Unfortunately I ate more cheese and eggs during that time out of necessity. Right now some days are 100% carnivore and others are not. It’s super easy for me and I honestly don’t crave anything else. I may just be one of those people due to my unique health history and ancestry that does better on a predominately meat diet. I’m fairly certain that most people are not nearly as sensitive as I am to so many foods. On one hand it’s quite maddening but I’m also thankful I seem to have figured out what works best for me!

Quote from Bella on April 23, 2021, 10:39 amI found this vitamin A free multi vitamin and figured I’d share it here. Forgive me if it’s been mentioned elsewhere already. I haven’t been around for a while because it’s been an intense year as a respiratory therapist.

Quote from Bella on February 10, 2024, 5:10 pmIt has been a while to say the least! I'm at about 5.5 years at this point. My absence was mainly due to my crazy hectic life working as a respiratory therapist during the whole covid situation. I tried several times to log on but it would not work from a mobile device so I finally tried from my computer tonight. I was eating mostly muscle meat carnivore from mid 2019 until about 7 months ago. I stayed decently low most of the time but there were times I had a higher intake rather than not eat at all when I was working demanding back to back 12 hour shifts in the hospital.
In the last few months I have gone back to being consistently stricter with keeping my intake between 5- 10 percent per cronometer . I don't have any complaints and do feel good. I'm really glad to be able to eat more than just meat now without problems. I'd consider myself in pretty excellent health at this point. I can eat adequate gluten free (due to celiac) carbs and I have found I personally benefit from lots of protein (approx. 1.75g/pound). I still find it necessary to be mindful of my oxalate intake.
I started exercising more about a year in and last summer I started lifting weights. I have visible abs for the first time in my life at 54 which is crazy. All my labs are good but my vitamin A level was increased on my last blood draw in early December of 2023. I had more than halved my visceral fat between August and November so I speculate my body released quite a bit of stored vA during that dramatic fat loss. I have excellent body composition (muscle and bone mass) for any woman but especially for a mid 50's menopausal woman. I have had an extraordinary amount of life stress in the last few years but feel I have held up well and I am super grateful. I'm glad to be back.

Quote from Inger on February 11, 2024, 2:01 amThat sounds great @bella! So happy for you, sounds like true healing has taken place, as you can now tolerate more foods! True resilience. I guess the body lets go of the visceral fat when it feels safe enough to handle the toxins that are stored in it. My body let go very slowly but I have a big reduction in cellulite already so I am really happy for that! I am also post menopausal but only 47 years, my period stopped quite early around 44-45.. I now guess due to my toxicity/stress level back then.

Quote from Bella on February 11, 2024, 5:13 amInger, I abruptly became menopausal in my mid forties as well. I’m so happy you are seeing improvements. Mine have been slow and steady with a few rough patches here and there along the way but my journey has been far from perfect. I’ve lost 75-80 pounds total and 55 of it since reading Grant’s books in 2018. I had lost the majority of that by the end of 2020. I never made weight loss my primary goal though-it just gradually happened. Last year I gained back 10 pounds after eating too much fat in the prior year between the spring of 2022 and 2023 so for me in menopause macros do seem to matter for detox/health. Here’s a comparison of my body composition changes from January 2020 and January 2024. I had already lost 1/2 of the weight in the first picture. My husband okayed me sharing this since it’s a private site. Hopefully you can view them.
