Vitamin D isn't very heat sensitive. You're might be destroying at most about 10% of it by boiling your oatmeal, unless you cook something for hours and hours and hours it wont make a very significant difference. I doubt you have too much vitamin D in your tissue unless you've been megadosing vitamin d supplements. It's not nearly omnipresent in the food supply like vitamin a is.

Quote from somuch4food on December 22, 2018, 6:45 amYou're right. I searched it and didn't read the article right. It was the middle of the night afterall.
I am nowhere near the RDA with less than a cup of milk and 2-3 slices of bread, but I still got the symptoms. We'll see in a couple of days if the pain recedes.

Quote from Guest on December 24, 2018, 1:28 amReading through your posts your trial diet confuses me. You might have lowered your vit A intake but you still ingest quite a lot of vit A which in a way beats the purpose of the whole experiment. After all, how can you pinpoint any suspect food if your are still poisoning yourself. Like the green olives that messed up your sleep... how can you know for sure it was the few pieces of olives that messed up your sleep that night? The only way to really pinpont one food is to eat a diet of zero or extremely low vit A and making significant improvements and then see if reintroducing some foods will worsen your symptoms. But you still eat vit A and you still have symptoms so you are trying to exit a maze blindfolded and shackled.

Quote from somuch4food on December 24, 2018, 5:56 amHow can you be so sure that my baseline diet could be the culprit? I was really careful for a week and was improving quite a bit in mood and the red/dry skin on my hand was healing. I think by not going zero A I am lessening the probability of having my body dump a massive amount of A and having detox symptoms. I might change stance eventually, but my current slow progress is satisfying.
Like some here have mentioned, I also have some immediate symptoms that I can feel right after a meal like a weird anxious feeling in the brain and a blurry vision.
Also, by keeping a low dose it might help retain a certain tolerance to the poison so that I can enjoy eating out at a restaurant or at a family gathering more.
The case you brought with olives was repeated on 2 different days, but I will probably try them again later.

Quote from somuch4food on December 24, 2018, 5:57 amNo knee pain today. I really think it was that sliced bread with vit D in it.

Quote from somuch4food on December 28, 2018, 7:03 pmIt was too difficult to strictly follow restrictions with the holidays, so my trials were interrupted.
One thing I'm sure is really detrimental is lard, small quantities (1 tbsp a day) were not worsening symptoms, but the batch of cookies I made with lard has given me a sore throat for as many days as I consumed them. I will be switching to Crisco shortening for baking.

Quote from somuch4food on January 8, 2019, 7:19 pmI've finally almost recovered from the holidays. The knee pain still comes and goes, probably not healing because I abused my body with vit A too much in the last 2 weeks.
I'm now suspicious of fructose making things worse for me (especially depression wise). Whenever I abuse sugar, I feel less energetic.
I'm also upping vit C intake. I started by adding applesauce with added C in it and am considering a supplement.

Quote from somuch4food on January 16, 2019, 5:53 pmI reflected about my problem with fructose and I think it's due to a potassium deficiency getting exacerbated by sugar intake.
Today, I ate green lentils with bread slices for lunch. Soon after, I regretted it. My brain felt inflamed and I started to have some muscle and joint pains. I did not have such a reaction to white beans last week. Carotenoids seemed low in legumes in general, well lesson learned.
