Quote from Jiří on September 15, 2025, 9:59 pm@joe2 I ate more rice during my life than whole Japan/Chinese family and my arsenic is not elevated on hair tests.
But having said that rice is just energy source. If you are not athlete/sumo/bodybuilder/strongman/cyclist or something like that who needs a lot of calories daily.
I think eating a lot of rice is not so smart idea. THere is not much minerals and if you eat smaller amounts like I don't know 100g every other day or even every day. I wouldn't worry about arsenic in white rice at all. Now brown rice from US could be problematic. That will be really high in arsenic..
Just buy white Jasmine/basmati rice not from US and don't worry about it..
If you are saturating the body with all essential minerals the toxic metals will have hard time storing in you..

hi Joe,
I have been eating Lundberg brown Jasmine rice almost every day since 2013. I eat about 1 to 1.5 cups of cooked rice and 5 or so organic brown rice cakes with no salt - a day.
I just looked up symptoms of arsenic poisoning and I have one, digestive disturbance, which I had before I started eating the rice.last week I soaked some rice in water and took it into the water testing lab to see if they can find traces of arsenic. I will let you know the results when I get them.
Before I cook my 4 cups of dry rice , I rinse it in warm to hot water several times until the water runs clear. I then put it in an Instapot with 4.5 cups of water and cook it for 31 minutes. It stays good in the fridge for up to 4 days.
I have never soaked it in charcoal, as I was eating it for nutrients because my diet was so limited. It seems like charcoal pulling the nutrients / toxins out of a food isn’t going to know that this is a good thing and this is a bad thing. About 25 years ago, I used Diatomaceous Earth for my livestock . Right there on the front of the bag it said “ feed separately from mealtime”. This was because it drew out all nutrients good or bad. I have also used healing clay when I first got leaky gut. At one point I tried taking it with my meals and within a short time it was like I was not getting any nutrients from any of the foods I was eating. I went back to taking it two hours before or two hours after meals or pills and all was good.
Hope this helps!

Quote from Joe2 on September 28, 2025, 12:32 amNice.
I am eating more rice. I have zero clue how you can eat that without salt. Yikes.
I also eat oatmeal, beef and chicken so I eat white Basmati from Lundberg. Figure the odds of me getting beri beri are low with this diet. Loving the rice. And the smell. As I understand it, majority of the toxins are in the hull so I figure I am good there.
Bought a 25# bag direct from Lundberg last week. Surprised they priced it competitive with grocery stores near us. Looking forward to getting screw top food buckets for longer term storage and bigger orders.
I rinse it first like you. Then I boil it with charcoal and salt and rinse it well again. Then I resalt and finish cooking it till soft. We, our chickens and our dogs go through a potful every 2 days.
We used to use an instant pot. Last year I came in from a night snow plowing and made soup. As it pressured up, the release valve leaked a bit. I turned it a hair to close the valve completely. Turned around, walked away. On my fourth step it blew up. Boiling chicken broth in all directions. Glad I was still wearing all my winter gear and that wife and dogs were out of the room. Instant Pot was belligerently useless. They think I should buy a new one and be grateful for the 5 years I got out of this one. I used to repair pneumatic nailers in a past life. I know what the problem with this pot was. I can fix it but they will not provide the parts nor a repair shop nor anything but a new instant pot.
So yeh, no, I am telling everyone I know, get away from computer run pressure cookers. Meanwhile, the steel pot itself is still useful. We have 2 of those now. I buy back up parts to repair everything we buy new.
As to charcoal, I think it is selective about taking in the most toxic item in the room. Livestock farmers have put it into feed for generations too. I have done with me, dogs and chickens for the last 34 months now too. Not surprised about diatomaceous earth and clay though. We use DE topically. Clay not at all. Hard to find clean enough clay.
So this last month I cut down on every supplement I take including charcoal. But the last 34 months I took in 1/4 to 1/2 cup charcoal in food and drink daily. Zero weight loss. Plenty of improvements.
Nice to read about folk doing better on more rice and less fruit.
Nice.

Quote from Jiří on September 28, 2025, 12:40 am@ginny do hair test in TEI or ARl to see if your arsenic is elevated. Brown rice has significant amount of arsenic in comparison with white..
I think there is a reason why basically nobody in Asia is eating brown rice. They give brown rice to animals and eat only white rice. A lot of it.
I wouldn't worry about arsenic in white rice based just on the fact that like half of the world was eating white rice as main source of calories and there is no global issue with arsenic poisoning or anything like that.. They don't even cook it in excess of water to lower arsenic content more.. I think they have good intake of other minerals from sea food, veggies, meats etc.. so they simply can detox any arsenic that comes from that rice.. Now if you are on some vegan diet low in stuff like selenium, zinc etc.. I can see the issue of retaining more toxic elements...

i eat salt on the RiceCakes, I put my own on. Sadly I can only handle white rice about once a week.
food storage: You will have better success if you buy 1/2 gallon canning jars to store your rice in. I have kept brown rice vacuum sealed in a canning jar to store for 5 years and not had it go rancid. Plus you are keeping a smaller amount in a jar and can use it up faster. I keep a handheld vacuum sealer on the counter to preserve the freshness and close it up after every use. https://www.amazon.com/Electric-Mason-Vacuum-Sealer-Regular/dp/B0BDDX27WT/ref=sr_1_2?crid=V3T24SNHA5B9&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.kFGGOCVDmuMrTR4ptc43g3OnOnZ4UIDptRIxgIMzF-qxj7j-VjkhAdbH45ENv1KtdD6oCsNoeEfzaYXjTuXCwRoubE-eMjcwmCwvp8x24s9nhaAqJQV8_3sddUjlHv-9YzdLDWUNcIiaTj6A2x9Fc5qVgZ7r6734qIgvs5W4vh2tf_-cM-eW0Gmyyvh3z_XGk8MyGCCLfjUE7zlZPJ65iugV3Y-bqbAN_LeIPTFvqOI.MbXQcBhpKu7LH14WBbNzTq_WlX61V_yX8X6fZCeiygg&dib_tag=se&keywords=vacuum%2Bsealer%2Blids&qid=1759073810&sprefix=vacuum%2Bsealer%2Blids%2Caps%2C332&sr=8-2&th=1I get most of my organic bulk foods at Azure Standard. https://www.azurestandard.com/?a_aid=lF9zaVHCXE
how it works is, you sign up, make your order online, once a month they ship it to a location near you, you pick it up.
How are you eating your oatmeal? I tried eating some shredded white summer squash fritters breaded in oatmeal flour and 2 eggs and it sent me backwards.
@jiri
How do I get the Tei or ARI test?
I am as veganless as a person can be! I grow and eat all my own meat . I am pretty much on the cowboy 🤠 diet.

Quote from Jiří on September 28, 2025, 1:41 pm@ginny you have to find practitioner. The labs are not doing it directly.. Ideally you want just hair test in ARl lab and their report. I think it is much better report than what some practitioners would give you. It is lab created by Paul Eck who created all that. It is great. It is very detailed and you will be impressed by what they can interpret jsut from the hair test I tell you that.. Obviously they don't deal with vit A toxicity for example. They assume that most average people don't eat stuff high in vit A so they do recommend it etc.. But it is ok. You can bend it to your needs. The important info is that it will show you if you are slow or fast oxidizer and on what elements you should focus on.

Nice. Thank you. Forgot about the vacuum sealer we have in the garage. For now looks like we are vacuum sealing bags and piling them into screw top buckets for long term storage. Keeps mice out (so far) and makes for grabbing a 2# bag and resealing bucket easier.
I do like the idea of pulling a vacuum on our jars too. Surprised that little sealer is so cheap.

I got the results back from my lab arsenic test on the Lundberg Rice water.
my arsenic for the house came back as ND non detected.
the arsenic for the rice soaked in water came back as .004mg/L. ( ND is ldeal, ND to .010 mg/L is satisfactory)
