How do Other People do it : bloodletting
Quote from Ourania on January 13, 2021, 1:54 am@ggenereux2014 has found a way: giving blood or plasma lowers the circulating amount of vA.
I understand that other people have noticed the benefits of giving blood.
There is for example what is happening in Delhi: Rahat
From the various videos/articles I found the procedure entails
- letting blood out of the patient's body, it seems it takes several weeks for the treatment, using different places very day from arms and legs
- a diet (which excludes biryani but what else? No alcohol, no smoking, lots of pulses)
- standing in the sun for a while
- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Af5KnSxwcqw
Maybe @naveen can help finding more about the procedure? More about the diet, why does it take so many days, what do they do before the treatment I think the standing in the sun is before the cuts? I did not find more in English. My name is not Qurania but Ourania and I am unable to read urdu for example.
This Muslim practice is part of Unani medicine, a traditional medicine used by Muslims in India and Pakistan. Unani means Yunani, which means Greek (Ionian). It is the legacy, improved upon of course, of the Hippocratic medicine the armies of Alexander brought with them to Afghanistan and India.

Quote from Jenny on January 13, 2021, 4:28 amSo interesting @ourania. I think we can learn a lot from traditional cures. It’s all so easily dismissed by Western medicine which is a huge mistake I think.

Quote from Navn on January 13, 2021, 4:33 am@Ourania , apologies for getting your name wrong .
I have not heard of this method , only Hajama ( cupping ) It is a very old practice from our Prophet’s time . Several people I know do this .
but the method you have mentioned above makes sense , sunshine , lots of pulses ( beans ) no alcohol , smoking , could help in getting rid of excess retinol
hajama is done in specific clinics . I have never seen what is shown in the video in Pakistan , I will check it though

Quote from lil chick on January 13, 2021, 7:11 am@ourania, I have read a lot of historical novels, and the blood-letting tool in English speaking areas was called a "fleam". (Leaches were also used, which you can get from ponds!) I never did really know how the fleam worked, or what it looked like, and just found this video (from a medical museum) which is kind of neat. I don't think I'll be doing this (using a fleam or leach), but VA detox does put another light on why blood letting might have sometimes helped sick people in the olden days! And does the idea of the "4 humors" from olden times... make more sense now? This 4 humor idea might warrant some more thought!

Quote from Ourania on January 14, 2021, 1:42 amVery interesting @Renee!
I think apart from leeches, there is also the practice of flagellation, like Catholics do in Spain for Good Friday, or Shiites do for Ashura. Both letting blood out after making gestures of self-hitting to ensure flow.
I am wondering if there could not be a modern hi-tech solution. Grant has found that giving plasma is just as good as giving blood for our purposes.
Maybe there is a future in private clinics taking your blood, removing the vA products from it, and giving it back to you? Is it even feasible? I cannot give blood, I am too old. Maybe this is a therapy of the future?
Very interesting @Renee!

Why you want remove vit A from the blood and put that blood back in you? It will do more harm then good.. Especially for people like you. Older people that accumulate not just vit A, but iron as well. Iron is strong oxidant and can be cause for many degenerative diseases... If you can't do what is on my photos. You should do "therapeutic phlebotomy" or you can just pay some nurse to do it for you.. Good idea is to do blood test for ferritin. Which is iron storage protein. Ideally it should be under 50. Each 500ml blood loss you will drop ferritin by 40-50 points. So if someone has ferritin like 500 you can see how much blood he needs to lose..

Quote from tim on January 14, 2021, 6:33 amIf someone has a serum retinol level of 50 mcg/dL and they give 450 ml of blood that is 225 mcg of retinol. It's an insignificant amount of vitamin A. Blood letting is good for removing iron but not vitamin A.

Quote from lil chick on January 14, 2021, 7:04 amJust for the record, my grandfather, who lived well into his 90's, gave blood all the time. Perhaps they didn't have that rule about age then?
Hey @jiri, are you royal, that is some blue blood right there. 😉
I'm not sure I mentioned it on this thread, but magnets stick to one of my children's fingers, and have for years. I think other family members have had their docs tell them they have high-ish iron, however, not actual hemochromatosis.

Quote from Mattia on January 16, 2021, 12:44 amI suspected that I had iron overload and i couldn't give blood to the hospital service so I gave myself a couple phlobotomies of half a liter. You only need some equipment and a lot of courage
