How do you know your detoxing

After you adopt a low VA diet, aside from improvements in your health, how do you know that you are excreting VA? I think Garret mentioned that your pee would be darker yellow, your feces would be more of an orange/yellow color, I’ve read that some have a great deal of fatigue. Anyone experience those detox symptoms on the diet? What else? Is it uncomfortable? Smelly? Painful? What is it like?

@katrina the first lets say 6 months the detox symptoms were obvious for me. It was like I was on accutane again.. The symptoms were in waves like I feel good, my skin is baby smooth etc. and from nowhere headache, acne in weird places, dry skin, lips, eyes etc.. and again nice and smooth skin, feeling normal.. The first year was like that. After this period I really don't know where my vit A level is.. But because I have still cholestasis( can't digest fats, floating stool, feeling like sh.t after fatty meals etc..) I know for sure the main pathway to detox vit A is still not working so I will be still high in vit A... I don't worry about that anymore. I don't like or crave foods high in vit A anyway. So I have no problem not eating things like carrots, sweet potatoes, squash, liver, butter ever again... Especially if I now know that vit A can be really problematic. So naturally my vit A intake will be under 30% of RDA for vit A so I don't think that this amount can give me toxicity again.. I got toxic because I was taking accutane and after that also taking supplements and for decade eating crazy amounts of egg yolks, liver, dairy, even juicing carrots or in the summer I had no problem eating  5kg of watermelon for a snack etc.. When you combine it with vit D deficiency, issues with bile production/flow then it's super easy to get toxic heh.

Thank you for your reply. How do you get that path to detox VA working again? Is it just low A diet? I’m glad your getting better. Thank you for defining cholestasis.

@katrina Avoiding vitamin A super strictly has been the most important aspect of detox for me, however there are many additional ways to support your body during this process.

Working with Dr. Smith has been helpful, because he identified that I have a stubborn zinc deficiency. Zinc is necessary to detoxify vitamin A, which is why it can be helpful for many of us to eat beef every day or consider zinc supplementation.

If I consume a lot of fiber (especially soluble fiber), my body dumps bile that burns my gut and causes loose stools. If I take activated charcoal with my fiber, my gut can handle the dump without discomfort. Good low-vitamin A sources of fiber include legumes, psyllium husk, apples, and whole grains.

Dr. Smith has identified a number of other things you can do to support the liver and the gut to detoxify... Do you listen to his Q&A livestreams on YouTube? He does them every Saturday, I think.
