How do your detox symptoms occur?
Quote from Nail on September 20, 2019, 2:23 amFirst of all, I'd like to give you a little introduction about my story. I started taking accutane 1.5 years ago and finished it in April of 2019. Generally, my dose was about 6000mg of retinoic acid. After the consumption I understood that my side effects hadn't gone away. I lost about 50% of the hair on my head. And this knocked me down mostly and I started finding the solution and came across the Wikipedia's article about how Vitamin A stores in the body. I weighed all the pros and cons and started sitting on a low Vit A diet. It was in the middle of July. Now I'm on it for 2 months and seeing some changes with my body.
First improvements I noticed on my 21th day. Before this I ate a lot of the protein (for about 200-300grams of the chicken breast a day) and in these days I felt terrible. I suppose it was detox symptoms. I had headaches, low energy, bad sleep etc. more than I used to have. And after this I stopped eating too much protein and, to my surprise, I started feeling better (on 21th day, as I said). It was the first improvement after a long "accutane sleep".
And these good changes lasted for about 10 days and then I felt that my detox symptoms were coming back. I started eating lots of meat, ham, peanut, sunflower seeds( all of these have a big amount of protein).
The more I eat protein, the more I feel detox symptoms. I've found some researches about connection between protein and VitA. As I understood, protein binds VA and runs it through the body. Due to it we can feel toxic effects. Maybe this can fasten elimination VA from the liver.
On this research one person ate for about 120g of protein/day and his biopsy showed that he had eliminated more than a half of VA storage from the liver. But his serum level rose and I suppose he could feel the toxic effects.
I'm not going to claim that it works 100%. Maybe I'm mistaken. The only thing I want to know how you experience your detox symptoms. Is there any connection with a consumption of protein or not?

I see now how important it is to increase protein, and Grant stresses it in his books. Plus its clear no blood test diagnoses high A, it has to be a liver biopsy. Fatty liver should be a huge warning sign.
I used retin- A for years, along with a diet very high in greens, colored fruits and vegetables, sweet potato, carrot. Skim milk dairy. Yogurt. Ceareals. Oats. Also used skin care and sunscreens with retinol all the time. I was diagnosed with fatty liver 10 years ago but the dr. never gave me diet advice except to lower my cholesterol. I was never overweight. I have no idea how my liver is, I never went for any routine exam again but OB gyn. And that's who diagnosed incurable sclerosus which has led me here, after 5 yrs of looking for answers. I refuse to use steroids or estrogen. Ive been low A 2 months now.
How have I experienced Detox so far? In two months of low A, only about 70 grams protein daily: Horrible prickly red rash everywhere. Flare up of skin condition which is the reason I ever found Grants books. Hair shed. Burning skin in the shower- no tolerance for hot water. God awful large stye on my right eyelid. One glass of wine and I flush beet red- I used to flush, but not that much, that fast. Inability to concentrate. Burning sensation on the bottom of my feet-neuropathy? I test my blood sugar, fasting is low 90s mid 80s its not diabetes. Inability to tolerate much caffeine anymore- get noticeable shoulder, neck pain shortly after black coffee.
Never understood having to eat so much protein, until now. I built a lot of muscle vegetarian, and believed in that lifestyle, low protein, for a long time.
I'm raising my protein and will see what happens, and report back if detox symptoms are better or worse, follow the thread. I think Grant is looking for ways to help people thru the detox, to help more people succeed, which could be a long time for some people.

Quote from Nail on September 28, 2019, 6:37 amHi, saraleah11
Thank you for the reply.
It would be interesting to know how your body will react to this protein supplement. I don't recommend to eat too much protein because your kidneys wouldn't be able to stand it. Just increase your consumption but try not to overload.
Now I'm experiencing a little improvement in my symptoms. For 7 days my skin hasn't gotten too dry like it was after accutane. Maybe detox symptoms will come back soon, I don't know I eat meat every day but not in big portions (100-150 grams daily).
I still can doubt in this connection between vitA and protein. Let me know how you will feel after a consumption of protein if there are detox symptoms or not. It would be useful to know how other people react.

Quote from saraleah11 on September 28, 2019, 9:04 amThank you both, I was considering buying Garrett Smiths program, but theres so much here. I read the public forum, might do it eventually. I've upped the beef intake a little and am doing 2 scoops of collagen instead of one. Can't say anything different yet Ill check back. Agree too much protein is hard on the kidneys for sure

Quote from saraleah11 on September 28, 2019, 9:23 amNail Im doing a bit better, so far so good. Seems like there was one strange nagging symptom after another for the first 2 months. I only upped the protein by about 235 grams- 8 more from collagen and about 15 more from a small extra serving of meat, now twice a day instead of once. Ive been taking vitamin c for the 4 days too. No new detox symptoms so thats a good thing. Slow, steady improvements. I also added a few walnuts for the Omega 3 because my eyes were scratchy-dry at night. But Ive been able to turn off the AC and I think they have become much more sensitive to the humidity.
Everything is sharper and clearer- vision, sense of smell too I never noticed it was dulled until it got better.
We started this around the same time- I started July 18th- issue from long term Retin-A, not accutane, and vegan. Be interesting to see how it goes Is your hair recovering?

Quote from Nail on September 28, 2019, 11:07 am@saraleah11 yeah, my hair is getting thicker now. As I said, I'm experiencing some improvements in my health. I guess everything is getting better this time.
We'll see what happens after some time. I suppose detox symptoms will come back again and I'll start feeling worse. It's usually so.
