Hypervitaminosis A Symptoms
Quote from tim on February 12, 2019, 5:52 pmI am one week into a low VA diet.
Yesterday morning I felt good and relaxed but a little tired.
Last night before bed I started to feel light headed and had a headache.
This morning I felt nauseous, light headed, tired, sensitive to light and sound and have a headache. All signs of Hypervitaminosis A?!
Seems odd that my body would dump larger amounts than it should into my bloodstream. Actually this makes more sense if VA is a toxin rather than a nutrient to be conserved and managed by the body. Or perhaps it is so unused to releasing stored VA that it overreaches similar to when someone has never entered ketosis before and the body produces too many ketone bodies temporarily.
Is this "detox" behaviour discussed in one of Grant's books? I may have missed it.
Diet:
White rice, white rice noodles, white bread, oats.
Beef, lamb, squid, scallops.
White part of leeks, cauliflower, potato, parsnip, mung sprouts, onion, garlic, mushrooms.
White grapefruit, litchis.
Almond milk, beer, iced tea.
White marshmallows, honey.
Herbs and spices.
This diet has been thought out to make sure there are adequate amounts of necessary micronutrients and includes low VA seafood for Iodine, Selenium and DHA/EPA.

Black pepper, garlic salt, cinnamon, mixed herbs.
All used in small amounts.
I make sure I use black pepper, mixed herbs (mostly thyme), cinnamon, honey and garlic in my diet because they specifically fight Helicobacter Pylori and they also have an effect on other gut parasites. I forgot to mention I also drink a small amount of wine, red wine is particularly effective against H Pylori.
After integrating these things into my diet I noticed a major change in my bowel movements and flatulence levels. I had chronic diarrahea and flatulence and it was 80% cured immediately.

Thanks for replying. I'm glad your bowels are improving. I know cinnamon and thyme have some carotene but it looks like you would need to be consuming them by the tablespoons to get any significant amounts.

Quote from Janelle525 on February 20, 2019, 3:32 pmIt does sound like you are going through a detox cycle. Also be sure you aren't reacting to resistant starch, for some people this can cause endotoxin symptoms.

Quote from tim on March 7, 2019, 1:41 amOk so I have been doing low VA for one month now.
I have been suffering with these symptoms almost continuously since starting:
- Fatigue
- Mild headache
- Brain fog
- Drowsiness
- Light sensitivity
- Jittery/Wired Feeling
- Lack of strength
- Blepharospasm (lower eyelid twitch) for the last week, I have never had this for long periods
Working is tough. I got reprimanded for losing my cool with a customer.
I have been sleeping better though. I have been falling asleep earlier but I have been waking up very early like clockwork, often before 6am which is completely new for me. I'm not used to this and I think this is contributing to daytime drowsiness. I haven't noticed this so much in the last week but in the first couple of weeks I was having vivid dreams which is very unusual.
I've been thinking about at what point in life I probably started to become toxic with Poison A. I wasn't a very fussy eater and ate plenty of high carotene veges early on. In my teens my family moved to a lifestyle block where we milked our own cows. I started eating a lot more dairy. We were into "healthy" eating and I was consuming much more carotene and VA than my friends. In my 20's I found WAPF and started consuming liver, CLO, way more butter, more high carotene foods etc so basically following a diet that was progressively worse through life.
I am not zero VA but very low. I am eating non oily fish, bananas and using a small quantity of mixed herbs on food.
I am enjoying the diet which is how I would have chosen to eat naturally if I wasn't falsely conditioned. I always disliked carrot, broccoli, kale, silver beet and pumpkin. I didn't mind sweet potato (I only liked the pale kind, might be lower VA?), spinach and parsley which are very high VA. I detest liver and other offal with a passion. I'm mildly lactose intolerant and not a big fan of dairy.
I don't currently believe the science is wrong about VA being a vitamin but think chronic hypervitaminosis A is probably epidemic and the RDA is probably way too high for many people.
I wouldn't mind eating low VA for life but if I incorporate more VA into my diet in the future I will possibly incorporate small amounts of butter, ice cream, eggs, spinach and green peas.
What I ate yesterday:
White bread sandwiches containing beef tallow, roast beef slices and onion relish.
Fish and chips with cauliflower.
Potato chips, coke, beer, iced tea, almond milk.
