Inability to gain weight

Page 1 of 4Next

Hi guys, I have taken isotretinoid 4 years ago. I recently discovered about vitamin A toxicity and I'm now on a low vitamin A diet.

My main problem is that I find it impossible to gain weight. I'm very very low body fat, I have veins all over my belly. I don't gain weight even if I stop doing sports and eat lots of foods. I have quite a bit of food sensibilities, so a unhealthy gut could also explain this.

Do you have any expericence about an inability to gain weight?

If I will find a solution I will post it here.

It seems to me that high VA can result in weight irregularities, and for some that might mean weight gain, while for others that might mean weight loss.  My weight has always been on the low side but I think it was because 1.  my body doesn't seem to realize that it can put on weight in which to store VA.  2.  I have been plagued by "everything must go" nights since about 12 years old.  (instead of weight gain?)

After a few months on lowered VA my weight went down a bit.  (was it because I didn't know what to eat?)   Now, at one year,  it is just slightly above my highest weight that I ever am.    I feel good at this weight.  I also wonder if my bones might be putting on weight.  My husband's weight has only gone up and he is not too happy with that.

Personally I don't think we are "in charge" of our weight, and the body will sort it all out.

If you are vegan, as r asks, I might suggest you could try being not vegan.  I would also say entertain your palette and eat freely of things that don't have VA.  Use intuition.  As much as possible, I think people should return to "normal" ways of eating.  Many of us have accrued food intolerance, and hopefully they will be going AWAY.

I once read about forest animals who become unable to digest their natural foods when they were eating modern and fast foods out of garbage cans and from litter.  Same problem.

@mattia You can have overactive thyroid. It would be good to do some basic blood work for hormones, TSH, free T3.. Or you can simply eat low calorie diet.. I hear it from the guys all the time. "I can't gain weight even if I eat so much" and when they tell me what they eat in most cases they eat like 13yo girls... So what is your diet? How many calories, how looks macro nutrient ratio and also how much you burn with exercise. Because you can eat a lot, but if you exercises a lot as well. They cancel each other...

You just don't eat enough. I'm a vegan and I do bodybuilding. I'm bigger and stronger now as a vegan than I ever was as a meat head.

I dont know about body building and Veganism , but for sure you will perpetually be vitamin A toxic on a vegan diet . I have been there , all the 'dietism' are bad for health , be it carnivorims or veganism

Show me some proof then. I have tried every single "diet" there is and read all the research there is and whole food plant based diet is the only diet that reverses heart disease and all diseases that you can think of.

If you think that people are meant to eat meat then how come when people eat meat it fuels cancer growth like crazy and when they change meat protein into plant protein, cancer growth stops and reverses.

How much cancer growth do you want? Just a little? Okay, eat meat just a little then. I prefer no cancer, but that's my choice.

My mom was mostly on a whole food plant based diet , occasional once a month a piece of meat and that too white meat like chicken . She has suffering from heart disease , she had migraine all her life , hyperthyroidism , pre diabetic . weight gain . and what not .

My dad ate mostly animal foods , red meat and yoghurt and surely vegetables and beans . He doesn't have any health issues .

Where did the plant based diet reverse the heart disease for my mom ???

I know you have been heavily influenced by  "china study" written by a vegan doctor , and I was too for sometime . Low carb , carnivore I have done it all . You will soon realize the benefits of Veganism when it ruins your gut .

We can't know what your mom ate or did, maybe she went to McDonald's every day without your knowledge. But what we do know is that if you do large study it proves that WFPBD reverses heart disease. It did reverse mine too. I had gut problems when I ate meat, not anymore any of that with WFPBD.

I don't trust your mom, people lie. I see people all the time who try to lose weight and they say " I just don't understand why I don't lose any weight even though I'm on this strict diet, just clean eating." and I see the same people eating chocolate bars and pizzas every single day. When I confront these people and say "you're trying to lose weight and claiming you eat clean, but what was that pizza then, why did you just ate that chocolate bar?", they just say "but, but, but...". So yeah, I don't trust people, I don't trust your mom or you, I trust scientific research.

@r-2 talking to vegan if it's optimal diet or not is waste of time..
