Iron damage requiring vitamin A (in retina)

Not sure I've seen the iron connection mentioned here before, so I'll share.

Free radicals react with lipids, proteins, and DNA to make lipofuscin, which are large fluorescent junk molecules.

Lipofuscin is associated with aging, and can be considered a hallmark of age and the increased oxidative stress throughout the body with time.  It can also be harmful to the garbage processing of the body (lysosomes).

Iron is a large source of free radicals, and iron levels generally go up with age.

It turns out that in the retina, iron only creates lipofuscin when vitamin A is present.

Of all the things that have improved in my health since being low vitamin A there are only 2 that I cant connect to anything else and so I'm pretty sure are due to lowering vitamin A levels. One of those is my vision. I'll see next month when I do my eye exam but a few weeks ago at the lab I spotted an eye chart and asked the nurse where the 20 foot line was. I was able to read the line below 20/20 (dont know if thats 20/15 or 20/18) where as a year ago I was struggling to read the 20/25 line. The other thing is my frozen shoulders are now much more flexible.
