Quote from JMH on July 24, 2019, 10:31 amHi everyone!
Just finished reading all of Grant’s work (I couldn’t tear myself away!) and have started on the zero/low Vitamin A diet today. Would like to log my progress here and also join in on all of the discussion!
Background - 46 year old female in the US. I have suffered with eczema for 10 years and dry eyes for 3 years. I’m not sure which condition is worse. Every day is a new adventure.
I used Retin A for years in my 20’s. Also consumed a lot of fortified milk and cereals growing up. I began eating very “healthy” when the eczema started, and ramped it up when the dry eye later surfaced. Fruits and vegetables, salmon, fish oil, supplements, etc. Both conditions just continue to get worse. Clearly I’m doing something very wrong!
I intend to go as low VA as possible. Most days are so miserable that food no longer brings me pleasure anyway!
@ggenereux2014 I can’t thank you enough for the work you have done. I am curious if there is a summary post/blog of your theory anywhere? I would like to discuss with my eye doctor (she’s extremely open minded), but it will be a hard sell to get her to read a 400 page book!
Thank you!

Quote from lil chick on July 24, 2019, 11:53 amHi @jmh ! Sounds like we are on similar paths although my skin problem is rosacea rather than eczema. I'm two months in. I can sort of judge my dry eyes by how many times a day I'm running for q-tips to clean gunk out of them. Some days are really good, but it's push-pull. You might want to take close up pictures of them, because I do think the whites of my eyes got whiter early on.

Quote from JMH on July 24, 2019, 1:04 pmHi @lil-chick! This is fantastic news just 2 months in. Do you know what type of dry eye you have - a problem with tears or oil? It would be wonderful to see my eyes white again, but right now I’d settle for comfort over aesthetics!
Any improvements with the rosacea? My eczema is primarily on my hands and arms, but every so often I’ll get it in my face, which is just brutal!

Quote from lil chick on July 24, 2019, 1:22 pmI don't know what type of dry eye I have. I gave up on doctors a pretty long time ago. There are some pictures on this page of my log that show my eyes and skin progress.
It appears that my face is changing COLOR first.

Quote from JMH on July 24, 2019, 2:41 pm@lil-chick You’re a smart woman. Doctors haven’t done much for me (even my lovely dermatologist husband! Ha!)
Wow! The difference in the color of your skin is absolutely fascinating!! And your eyes look great. This seems very promising, thank you for giving me encouragement!

Welcome to the board! I'm curious, how did you find Grant's work? And what does your dermatologist husband think of his theory?

Quote from JMH on July 25, 2019, 6:06 am@josh Thank you! I found out about it through someone who is currently on the diet after being hit by Accutane. She found out about it on an Accutane healing website.
My husband is intrigued. He sees my daily struggle with eczema and has been unable to do much for me, though I am very cautious about what I will use - steroids scare me, and I refuse to try much of the experimental medication out there! So he is supportive of a natural approach and anything that could help my suffering
Interestingly, my husband has never once prescribed Accutane during his career. His brother is a dermatologist as well and had a patient commit suicide on the drug during his first year in practice. My husband learned a big lesson from that. I read him the parts in Grant’s books about Accutane and he agreed whole heartedly. However, he prescribes topical retinoids (I used Retin A years ago at his suggestion), and he does not believe they are unsafe. Nonetheless, I can tell he is a little uncomfortable by the possibility that Grant is really on to something here!
