Life after Accutane

From dec 2018 to april 2019 i took Accutane for moderate acne, it worked like a wonder.

In the beginning of 2021 i went on an antidepressant called Zoloft and within 2 weeks i developed these symptoms:

- Lost 50% of my hair

- Hair texture changed

- Very, very emotionally numb & unmotivated

In august of 2021 i was so done with all of this that i tried "The Carnivore Diet", beef, salt & water.

After 3 weeks i had a very heavy detox and i became so scared that i just stopped and started eating like i did before (Carbs, sugar and other bad stuff)

Since then i'm totally destroyed actually

- All of the symptoms from above

- 0 libido

- Clicking painful joints

- Exercise intolerance

- Dark circles under eyes

- Aversion against sunlight, not only i became very sensitive to light but i just want to lay on my bed in a dark room all day

- Personality change, irritability and my family states that i sometimes act like an alcoholic psycho. I'm very ashamed of this cause i rarely drink alcohol but i became very cold and it's like i can't feel love anymore (makes me feel like a Russian soldier lol)

- Acne coming back

- Lost all spirituality

- Food intolerances

- Hair loss

- Excessive urination

- Bad weight loss

- Easily sunburned

- Bad depression, anhedonia & anxiety

- My jaw is totally misaligned

- Muscle loss

- Low vitamin D, high calcium and whenever i supplement Vitamin D it makes it all worse instead of better

So there's this website called propeciahelp.com and there are lots of other guys who are destroyed in the exact same way by a hair loss drug called Finasteride.

I tried a few things since then like fasting, vegan (don't recommend) & eating less.

But there's only one thing that has helped my mental symptoms and it's alcohol.

I know it will only make me worse in the long run but it's not the booze itsself what makes me feel better. It's the days after drinking it. I can finally enjoy things again, better libido, and my hair is way softer (i'm serious) it's like my masculinity/testosterone comes back the days after drinking.

Sorry for my bad typing i'm only 19 and foreign.

It sounds to me like the combination of stopping the medication and starting a carnivore diet improved your liver function and caused you to start dumping Vitamin A and possibly other toxins.  Drinking alcohol impairs your liver's ability to eliminate Vitamin A by occupying the same dehydrogenase system required for both, which is probably why it makes you feel better...it is stopping the dumping of Vitamin A, which is a very uncomfortable process.  True detoxification does not feel good until it's over!

@wavygravygadzooks @jutemelop probably why my vacations over the last 3 years I felt really good, beers and drinks everyday in moderation, VA stays in place.

@wavygravygadzooks

Yeah i think i didn't had to stop the carnivore diet. Also since stopping i have intense carb and sugar cravings, like my body doesn't want to detox and let go of vitamin A

Hi! I don’t know a lot about this, but there is a whole community of people who get relief from various symptoms after drinking.

they call it “the hangover effect”

https://www.reddit.com/r/hangovereffect/

maybe you can find some answers there!

I am still researching about these things myself, but I am also post-Accutane. I hope you find some relief for your troubles.

Holy moly, i thought i was the only one with that drinking aspect. It turns out alcohol inhibits the detoxification of VA and that's why we get a symptom relief the following days. Atleast, that's what i think cause i believe in Grant's theory.

If i would come up with the Vitamin A theory in that subreddit probably no-one would believe me.

Apparently alcohol also depletes vitamin A or impairs its absorption.
