lil chick's log
Quote from Eio on December 22, 2024, 9:59 amHi, lil chick. I have been taping my mouth at night for about 8 years. It stopped me from snoring and having a dried out mouth/throat. I don't know that it helped my dry lips that much. I had dry lips for decades due to too much vit A and beta carotene. I used chap stick constantly but no longer use it or even own chap stick now.
I use a small piece of 3M brand gift wrapping tape. It has never caused me any irritation and holds well throughout the night. And it sticks well even if I remove and reapply to drink water when I get up in the night.
I recommend taping but most people think I am nuts.
Thanks for the information by Sten Ekberg.

Your reminder that blue light in the presence of VA causes eye damage spurred me to find blue blocker light bulbs. Hi @DWL, thanks for the special message! I'm glad you are around here, too!
Quote from lil chick on April 4, 2025, 6:51 amHello everyone, it's April and that is my anniversary here, 6 years. I thought I'd go back to my original list of complaints. I'm now 62, BTW.
1.Vertigo. I believe that VA overload was the cause of my vertigo. I just went on a 4 hour plane trip to visit an unwell relative. I had a moment of vertigo when I hung my head over to look down at something on the floor of the plane. Otherwise I had zero motion sickness in either direction. I do some things to help with motion sickness, and I don't know how much those are part of the cure. One thing is that I don't allow my head to rest on the seat back (pad the seat mid-back), and I try to look at the horizon if possible. Eat lightly but do NOT skip meals. I have also been able to tolerate car rides of 4 hours recently with no bad effects.
2. Itching, Rashes, Scaly Skin, peeling lips. This still goes on and I think of it as ongoing detox. Especially in the areas that were rosacea, but sometimes it even happens between. Occasionally a cherry angioma appears in a detox area and I've come to think of those as the little final hurrah of a detox area. (vivid imagination LOL) My sweat is still itch-i-fying, and can still cause a transient rash over my liver/kidney area in front and in back. There was something in the "Breath" book about your skin becoming more silky with time, and I think I see the beginnings of that effect. Being VA toxic can have a crisp-i-fying effect on body parts, and that *softening up* parts is just the ticket IMO. (Sclerosis is the word for the crisp-i-fying). Peeling lips are still an issue, "lip sclerosis" if you will. My peeling lip symptom is very very stubborn, but I suppose the lips are where the VA arrives. Do lipstick pigments absorbed over time also need to be detoxed?
3. Papular Rosacea. I believe that VA was the cause of my rosacea. I still have a little scar tissue where rosacea was. I still get a papule here and there--detox goes on. I was born a flushing Blusher and alcohol and heat can still make me red. Nothing else ever came close for helping my rosacea.
4. Spider Veins. I have not added to my thigh collection, and facial telangiectasia (that often accompanies rosacea with time) does not seem like it's going to be an issue.
5. Muscle Aches, spine . Husband and I both have occasional left shoulder stiffness, but it never amounts to anything. I can tend to have back or neck spasm sometimes. My kid has given me some stretches to do, and staying in shape helps a great deal. I also think resting in the midst of exertion is a key idea. Again, perhaps the idea is that things are somewhat brittle. Spinal crustiness is a hallmark of VA overload. I think it's best to work through the crustiness often, rather than let it accumulate LOL. I need to also let go of my idea that I'm too good for pain relievers, a well-timed Aleve or two is better than being a hero and might have beneficial effects both psychologically and physically.
6. Coarse Hair, Hair Thinning, White hair. My hair is softer than pre-VA detox. My thinning stopped progressing, but did it fill in? Maybe not. No color change.
7. Gingivitis. I believe that I know what is going on with this, and it is possibly a bit different that people think. I believe as your VA overload progresses your teeth become crusty (and yellow too). If you looked at them with a microscope the surface would not be smooth, there would be stalagtites and stalagmites. They can even get tinted yellow with carotenes (IMO). Your gums hate this crustiness and get irritated and let go and look red and inflamed. Food sticks to the crusty teeth (and perhaps VA absorbs instead of moving on), and germs grow.
Over a long time on lowered VA, your body fixes up teeth (and bones too). When this happens food stops sticking so hard, they feel smooth and the gums can glom back on. I've seen areas where the gum will glom and unglom as this process unfolds. This process is a slow one (especially for me). I've got this one lower tooth that I watch and when it gloms back on well I will truly feel that a goal has been reached and I will post about it here.
8. Dry Nose, Dry Eyes including rough patches on the white. Constantly running nose. Slow progress here, not totally gone, not horrible. My nose runs more than others but not as much as it did before. Do believe that some head, ear, eye detox happens through nose. I think this delicacy of nose/eye tissues probably results in things like dust, mold, pollen, perfume etc allergies.
9. Nausea and Migraine. I believe that my "chronic vomiting attacks" and migraines were all about VA-overload.
I have found something strange and that is when I get an infection anywhere on my head, such as mouth or ear, I get head/scalp pain and wonder what that is about. It may be lingering neuralgia, or problems moving lymph due to sclerosis of these channels. Jiri once posted a picture that showed his lymph system looking crispy.
10. Light Sensitive. My eyes are still quite light sensitive (they are light blue though) and I wonder if that is something I need to work through, (as in take some light in small quantities and work up). Some of the discussions have talked about whether sunlight is actually going to help with undoing some of the VA load. Have I avoided light too much?
11. Mense Abnormalities. I still get menopausal hot flashes occasionally and my personal theory is that I get the most of them when I am currently loosing weight and the least of them when I am gaining. I take this to be because you are opening up fat cells and hormones come out with the energy.
12. Raynaud's Phenomenon and foot cramps. My Raynauds (which I'd like to point out is a condition known to be related to scleroderma ie sclerosis) has not gotten worse, and the remaining patches are all on one foot now. I do need to keep my feet warm to avoid foot cramping. Better breathing helps with keeping extremities warm.
13. Facial Orange-ing. When I went to visit my elderly sick relative I noticed that my skin was many, many times less yellow. I share half my DNA with this relative and we have similar skin tone. Besides not ever exploring low VA, this relative has received much more sun than me.
14. The Prayer Sign. Still the same, not worse, which is I suppose something.
15. Lost the trust in my body to BE NORMAL and find myself choosing to make my life smaller. I'm still not normal. May not ever be totally normal but glad to not be dead or heading that way.
Very glad to have found a cause of my issues.
Some general comments: I do think that I was drinking more than I should have been (one drink per day, every single day) and that it added to my toxicity. However, I'm not at zero alcohol and sometimes get the urge for it. I suppose, like many things, I'm not interested in absolutes? But also I believe urges have reasons. I also drink coffee but not a lot, I eat chocolate but not a lot, I hit up spices or certain foods that others here avoid. I guess you could say my experiment of n= 1 is about moderation and leeway. I eat square meals that would be considered to be normal back in the mid-century (before eat-the-rainbow LOL).

Quote from lil chick on July 31, 2025, 8:29 amI've had "the stomach flu" about 3 times in the last 6 months and it stands out to me since, like many here, I've generally seen good resistance to viruses lately.
I know exactly where I'm getting exposed: The Hospital, The Nursing Home, and caring for my Elderly relatives in their homes.
It seems to happen when I'm exposed to questionably clean bathrooms.
Why am I very susceptible? (more than others who aren't lowish vitamin A)
I'm tempted to start another thread, but lets see how this does here.
Have others here seen a lowered resistance to "stomach flu"? Symptoms like:
aches, chills, the runs and weakness

Quote from Janelle525 on August 1, 2025, 4:54 amWhat's interesting is I haven't thrown up at all since finding out about vitamin A back in 2018. I have had colds/flus, but none since doing beans 2-3 times a day for 1.5 yrs. So basically I don't get sick at all. Also can function on less sleep, but struggle to sleep like I did when I was young which apparently is common in perimenopause. Just turned 40.

It does sound like you are getting exposed to some awful nasty bacteria in those places.

Quote from lil chick on August 1, 2025, 5:34 amHi Janelle, thanks for your posts!
I wonder if the bean fiber acts as prebiotic, giving good bacteria a place to live.
I wonder if this is some sort of over-reaction, "Hey look guys time to call out that 30-year old VA and put it to use!"
Or if the "dermis" of my lower GI is more susceptible than it should be. I guess it could be both.
I definitely get the feeling that I've suddenly got a LOT of VA circulating when I get exposed to these bugs.
