Matt Stone fixing night blindness with vit A

Page 1 of 4Next

Matt Stone the guy who discovered work of Grant Genereux and put him on the map basically. Dr. Smith learned about vit A toxicity and Grand and his work through Matt and his website https://180degreehealth.com/vitamin-vitamin-villain/

Now made a video where after 7-8 years of low vit A diet started to experience night blindness that was fixed by one big meal with a lot of vit A..

Thank you Jiri, and if you are reading, thank you Matt Stone.

The sun is getting into his eyes (he talked about being out in the sun all day) and blasting the vitamin A in the retina?   (We know that sunlight does break down vitamin A)  That would be one of the big differences between him and many others doing the low-VA experiment, many of us either wear sunglasses or are inside most of the day.

And for whatever reason, his body isn't going and retrieving  the bad-old vitamin A from storage (which he thinks does exist) but instead only fixing up the retina with *newly ingested vitamin A*.

This is big news!    I think this is a big development.  We may have our answer here about "is vitamin A purely a toxin".

I could totally see that the body might be picky and choosy about what the body allows into the eye.

Personally, I'm only medium-low vitamin A, and not ultra-low like he or Grant are.   I have now-and-then felt that my night vision went a bit dark, but mostly it has been ok.    Thinking back, I cannot remember if it was during times of enduring bright sunlight in the eyes.   Eye dryness is something I've experienced before, during, and after this vitamin A experiment.     I will agree that eye dryness is much worse after beach or skiing.

@lil-chick I am not sure if I understand what are you saying.

I think Matt simply said that he depleted vit A from his body by years of low vit A that caused night blindness and eating meal with high vit A content was enough to fix that night blindness. Yes sunlight helps deplete vit A for sure. It is one out of many factors that determine how much vit A you can handle.. That's why you see Grant couldn't handle lets say moderate amounts and somebody like Paul Saladino can handle insane amounts for years with zero symptoms of health issues...

Matt is pushing his metabolism up with more exercise and bigger calorie intake. That speeds up vit A metabolism/depletion as well probably..

He seemed to say that a human being's liver contains a million IU, and I doubt he has run out of that?    I don't think that even Grant has run out?

Whenever this question comes up about needing new VA input for eye health ...I remember a story I read during my wapf time.   I asked the AI about it, to help me remember it, and it appears it was from Price's research:

"In his work, Price cited a specific case where a Canadian Native cured a condition called xerophthalmia (a serious eye condition that can lead to blindness) using vitamin A-rich flesh from behind fish eyes. "

I think the story went that the person had been surviving on hardtack and other non-vitamin A foods.   (hard tack is just water, wheat and salt)

I'm a little bit surprised that Matt Stone was able to do what he said he did, which was to walk around for days in super bright light without eye protection.

Sensitivity to sunlight is a hallmark of vitamin A overload.    I've been noticing the parallels between hypervitaminosis A and sjogrens.   Sjogrens patients are warned not to expose their eyes to light as they are very sensitive and apt to be harmed.    Diabetics also lose their ability to handle bright light.

Inuits etc invented slits to peer through to protect from snow blindness.    The sun is harsh on all human's eyes.

I feel like this isn't the end of figuring out this aspect of vitamin A.

One thing that we can be pretty sure about is that 99.99% of  human diets have had at least some vitamin A in them.

Is Matt Stone the same guy who said to eat for heat and then later told everyone he had gained a lot of weight and the excessive eating wasn't necessarily raising his metabolism?

If he has been eating such a low vitamin A diet for 7 years why is he still overweight?  What is his diet?

I do know that I have been eating a low vitamin A diet for 6 years and the last three years I ate 1/4 cup of oatmeal everyday for breakfast and some other foods with lutein occasionally.  Last summer my night blindness reached a point that I was seeing dark spots.  So I dropped the oatmeal and other foods and within a few days my night vision improved greatly and the spots were gone and haven't returned.  I have never worn sunglasses.  I don't have dry eye and in fact my eyes seem to water more than I would like.  I don't even feel like I have any night blindness now.

@lil-chick "He seemed to say that a human being's liver contains a million IU, and I doubt he has run out of that?    I don't think that even Grant has run out?"

Why? When mainstream saying you run out of retinol in couple of months why wouldn't Matt or Grant deplete liver retinol in 8 years?

I think when your blood level of vit A is constantly close to zero it is pretty good sign that your stores in liver are pretty empty.

@eio

Yes it is him. He had health issues related to bad life style( a lot of work, bad sleep routine etc..) was not active just in front of PC etc..

Now he is into regaining fitness and getting to healthier body fat %. His thing is to not ruining his metabolism by big calorie restriction, so it takes much longer obviously..

I also don't have nigh blindness and I was on low vit A as long as Matt. I fixed the crazy level of toxicity I had and issues from it, but I have other issues and I do worry to not end up vit A deficient. Because I do believe that we need some.. Will just do blood work once a year if it drops under ref. range I will probably start to experiment here and there with some vit A foods.. Probably cod liver as it has vit D as well...

I don't trust much of what he says. It's all anecdotal. Did he get a blood vitamin A test? I did because I had been consuming such low amounts and it proved my dry eye was not low vitamin A, nor could my less than great night vision as I still had pretty normal values in my blood.

Similar experience here.  Vision still improving 35 months into vA depleting.
